HEY! Why the goldfish hate? These are one of the best freshwater fish IMO. They're colorful, active, hardy, personable and friendly. Just. Because they are so abused does not mean they are bad fish. :-(

Not a bad fish at all, although some of the ornamentals are freaky.  Most goldies really have no place in the aquarium trade because of their potential size, and waste.

I wouldn't say "worst fish" though. :p

Worst fish in the hobby, or worst fish on earth?

Well maybe not the worst, but it is like they're pointless they're not treated well, they're not colorful, they poop a lot, you can even win them at a fair or carnival..... I mean they are just live-bait

There's quite a few fish that really have no place in the hobby at all, on any level...

Bala sharks, for example.  I'd suggest that they are properly housed in less than 0.1% of the tanks they are in.  They are highly active, very fast swimming, shoaling fish... I'd suggest that a 12 foot tank would be the absolute minimum and they still don't have the length to really swim.  And how often do you see them in any kind of 'shoal' in the hobby?

At least goldies can be kept in solos.

Worst fish on earth?  I don't think there's any such thing.   They all have their niche, just not in tanks.

But bull sharks are the thing that scares me the most.
