Jungle Scape

Put the vallis up for swap.

Looking good. :good: I love sand substrates.

Wow much prefer it with the triangle type scape, will be watching this closely :)

Do you have an external filter? If so I'd get an inline heater :good:

Trust me, it's on the list! :D Along with an inline diffusor for the co2. But there's no way I can afford them at the moment, so just gotta stick with it. Although if I pull another stunt like the other day... am planting swords and thinking, what on earth is that crackling sound and why can I smell burning plastic? Turns out I forgot to unplug the heater, d'oh! Luckily it still works, but it may not if I do it again...

The vallis is, I think, going to a friend of mine who is adding plants for the first time. Along with that floating mass of plants in the picture. She's coming tomorrow. If she doesn't want them they'll be going on the plant donation thread.

Lol I made that mistake on my first ever water change all them years ago :)

It looks brilliant, its come a long way since the first pictures with the artifical plants in, you people with the big tanks make me so jealous, ive only got an 80 ltr corner tank its so difficult to do anything with.
Enter totm i think you might be in with a chance. :good:

Awesome tank, i would say enter it into TOTM.

Thanks all, I'm going to take some more pictures tonight once my mate has been to collect her plants. Doing another water change tonight too. Also need to decide how I'm going to do trace from now on as my Seachem Flourish will be empty soon. Should I buy more Flourish or change to dry trace? Not sure...

Ps, Joe, I know what you mean about smaller tanks but I've never owned a corner one (although I do want to, I lack a corner to put it in! Lol) I'm sure your time will come! ;)

Just been reading through this! Looks SO much better now than it did to begin with, you have done a fantastic job!

The black bin liner background is superb!! Well done :good:.

Question: in the last picture you have posted you have a plant thats huge, all down the right... and a huge bunch of it floating. What plant is this? I would love some! :)

The plant on the right is (I think...) Hygrophilia corymbosa var. angustifolia. The bunch of floating stuff was actually mostly dwarf sag. There were some hygro plants in there too. Next time I trim it I shall pm you? :)

Have finished my research project :yahoo: so today I decided to set up my co2. Got everything ready...and broke the bubble counter. Quick call to lfs, they have one so the man-wife has gone to pick it up :)

think I'm going to have to move/pull out the hygro. It's obstructing flow and with it being where it is, it's difficult to trim and is getting leggy cuz of the wood blocking light to the bottom. Might put it in the middle where the vallis is at the moment... if I downsize the clump you can have some SchottayB :good:

Ok... co2 has been disconnected for the time being.

In case anyone missed it, here's why... :rip:

Tank has been taken back to substrate, cleaned, rescaped almost the same as before, minus the vallis which I will offer on donations once I'm sure all the shrimp bodies have been removed. Awaiting new lot of fish tomorrow (twas organised before the gassing). It's going to look very empty for a while, but we can't afford to replace the fish immediately. We decided we wanted to try to restore it instead of stripping and starting anew in a different direction. I have very kindly been offered any fish I want from a friends' granddad who has a fish house. Don't know quite what we'll be keeping, but we're sticking with lots of small fish.

Still feeling quite raw about it... trying not to let it get me down... doesn't help with missy looking in the tank every 5 minutes and saying "fiss?"

Oh, I'm sorry. It happens, as SBS said, try to see if you can get the regulator replaced and start again. I respect you putting this up in your journal, though. Journals are warts and all and I have full confidence that the tank will rebound again.

:)

thanks Liz :) I'm sure it will. Going to be putting the co2 system on a spare tank and testing it before putting it back on here :good:

well, had a visit from Hanny yesterday, rehoming some of her fish (thanks hun :good: ), and after that I went and bought some more fish so tank now houses:

14 harlequin rasboras
14 silvertip tetras
4 amano shrimp

Was hoping for cherry barbs but there was only one. Shame :( might try again another day for them, can't decide on 2 or 3 shoals (harlequins aren't staying in here so silvertip count as 1, cherry barbs would be 2, would quite like something contrasting maybe?)

I was quite impressed; I asked for 2 shrimp and was expecting to pay for them, he gave me 4 and didn't charge me for them! So £10 worth of free shrimp!

So, new plants, here's some pictures:

And some old favourites, christmas moss and anubias  (I think anubias might actually be my favourite plant, I absolutely cannot wait to get more, different varieties!)

Hoping to get some more anubias - coffeefolia, hastifolia, nana petite; another java fern or 2; bolbtis; some Hygrophilia difformis for the back left corner; Micranthemum micranthemoides for the front right corner; plus Staurogene repens and Pogostemon helferi to partially replace the crypts when they move to the biotope.
