Jungle Scape

Nice, that Star Grass looks awesome. :)

It's not Star Grass. Star grass has thinner leaves and they aren't as long. Although I don't know exactly what it is. -_- if someone who knows about these things wants to enlighten me that'd be great!

Looks so much better now well done!

Juwel Rio 240? Looks bigger than that nice!

Thanks :) not big enough though. Want to upgrade to a Rio 400.

Looks great :good:

Thanks

Love what you have done with this rio 240, I am looking to do the same to my 180, am adding a large piece of bogwood soon and will be constantly adding plants after that.

I am interested to know what bulbs you have in your light system, I have the t5 unit with a daylight and colour bulb (i think) but I want the clearer look likes yours

The system is the standard jewel light system, but the bulbs that came with it went long ago so I bought 2 new ones. One is 40w, the other is 38w but I can't for the life of me remember what make they were as it was a good couple of years ago I bought them and the labels have long since worn off... sorry I can't be more help :(

Love what you have done with the tank

Can you give me any tips on how to set up, as i am thinking of setting up a planted tank for my discus.

love the Hygro on the last pic, looks awesome!

Latest addition: bought several plants from C101 (thanks hun!) :good: comprising:
10 x cryptocoryne (gah :grr: can't remember which one now, but it's either beckettii or wendtii green)
7 x Echinodorus bleheri
1 large clump java fern
1 anubias barteri nana (wondering if this could be petite? it's much smaller than the nana I already have  )
2 x Aponogeton crispus
2 x amazon swords

So I chopped the java fern into 4 bits and tied 2 onto the small piece of wood that was in the centre middle of the tank, and have moved that piece across to the right:

The other 2 went onto a piece that was at the far right and already had java moss on it. I also had some java moss spare from trimming the log in the middle last week, so I tied that on too:

The anubias has been cut in half and the two halves placed on the 2 pieces of wood that already had anubias on them, not sure how well you can see, this is the little piece of wood at the front, directly behind the crypts:

The other piece I was going to do before and after pictures of, but I forgot the after pictures! Anyway, this is what it looked like before, I put the new anubias on the bottom leggy bit, and also chopped the anubias on there already and tied the chopped bit to the other leggy bit:

All swords I bought plus the swords I already had in the bottom left corner of the tank (which weren't doing well really - possibly lack of light?) have all been put in the middle centre of the tank, in between the vallis at the back and the moss covered log near the front:

I did remove a couple of leaves that looked bad while they were out of the water, but now they've been planted they look awful! They didn't look like that while in my hand! What's the diagnosis for cause of the leaves degrading like that and can I fix it or do I just remove and wait for new leaf growth?

I had 2 clumps of crypts already, the clump on the right I pulled up, and replanted on the left along with the new ones I bought, so 10 new ones plus 8 moved from the right hand side added to the 7 ish I had on the left makes a huge clump of crypts :hyper: the brown ones are the ones I already had and the greens are the new ones. The eldest DD told me where to put them as she tripped up and grazed her knee so sat on a stool next to the tank feeling sorry for herself and telling me where to plant the plants, bless her :) sorry about the blurry photo, not sure what happened there!

Finally, the crispus have been planted sort of behind the tall piece of wood that's jutting out. Couldn't get a picture because of the angle, but they are the only plants in that bit of tank. Don't know whether they will flourish, or even survive, but got my fingers crossed as I'd like to move them to the biotope eventually. I also moved a couple of hygro stems a bit further forward into the corner.

Finally, for ease of scrolling, here's before and after pictures:

Thoughts, comments, suggestions? :D

I'd leave it there, that looks quite good and I'd be happy with it. Just let it have a good grow and fill out a little more. :good:

Yes the only other thing I'm hoping to do with it at this point is add some dwarf sag to the clear area at the front.

looks really good Cazzie! Some good quality plants there. :good:

So, it's been a while...have been bogged under with research project, but decided to make the most of B having an early nap and had a major clean. Also rearranged a bit. Took wood out, hoovered all the mulm, pulled out about 5 large handfuls of vallis (which anybody is welcome to if they want?) and put everything back in. Also cleaned the filter pipes and spraybar. Here's the result:

I'm quite pleased with it, considering I just plonked the wood in sort of wherever. It's much more like the triangle scape I wanted originally. Moved the hygro to the right, the swords to the left (they now have more room and light), found the two Aponogeton crispus which have not died like I thought they had and brought them to the front for the moment. Left the crypts where they were cuz last time I moved them half of them never came back after melting

The floating plants are for a friend. Sorry about the crappy picture - just grabbed my phone. Will do more tonight or tomorrow evening once the murk has cleared and have time. Now it's lunch time! Fish soup for me I think! Lol.

Here's a better picture:

On daily 50% water changes and crap removal to try to help the plants settle into their new places. Will be adding CO2 in a couple of weeks once this research project is done with. Have FE, reg, solenoid, needle valve, co2 tubing, bubble counter, and glass diffuser. Only need an adapter for the solenoid (sorry FishyJake - the one you sent me doesn't fit!) and possible an inline atomiser (although I'll admit that can come at a later date).

Also, since moving the plants I definitely need a wavemaker to improve the circulation. Am thinking left back corner, next to the filter inlet, aimed across the back. It'll make for some interesting currents in the tank but I'm sure the fish will be fine.

Ludwig reckons I should enter for TOTM... what do you think? The above picture is the first time I've actually been happy enough with the tank to even consider it...
