So were you wondering why the nitrites were fluctuating on tank 2? That looks very unusual. Is it possible that you are somehow not doing the test the exact same way each time?

Sidebar: just curious how you are ending up cycling 3 tanks at once. I have never seen anyone do that before on the forum!

both tank 1 and tank 2 are going straight to purple at the bottom of the tube (Ni) they both go straight to orange..then go through till ruby red.
Maybe water changes???
I'm a bit lost!!
oh and i do shake the bottle like mad before i do the drops. and after for 1 min

I got Tank 1...started it cycling..then wanted one for my bedroom...so bought Tank 2...then i felt i needed a hospital ttank...so i bought Tank 3

I originally posted something along the lines of;

If you don't shake the bottles properly and for long enough then your tests will be very inaccurate.

It has to be inaccurate test results for the nitrite. There is no way nitrite level can go from 0 to 5+ ppm without the addition of Ammonia. I would suggest water changes in both tanks 1 and 2 to completely zero your levels and then start again with a dose of 4ppm, then test the levels again after 12 and 24 hours.

Hey, I have just been looking at your log. For tank 1, are you sure you did not add ammonia as from what I can see nitrite jumped to 5ppm with no addition. If you didnt it is probably a faulty kit. The reason some times you are seeing 2ppm nitrite then next day 5ppm then one day 0ppm then the next day 4ppm is because your nitrite is bouncing - it happened to my cycle too. It normally does this for a week then settles out and becomes reliable.

By the way, try to keep adding the same amount of ammonia now everyday for tank 2. I hope this helps - it is really confusing look at 3 logs all in one

i spent an hour writing it all out with equal spaces...and when it can up..it was all squished together....if someone has a spare hour and wants to rearrange it...then go ahead by all means! lol

The editor and the submitted post are not identical, it took me some fiddeling about to get it right, also why I use the ~ on my log to seperate things

It's Tank 1....day 21 to day 22 the nitrite jumps to 5+ppm without you adding ammonia.
