Female Puppy Heat?

this is a serious thread and what ppl think im doing here! im not just saying im gonna breed them! im going to research(which um this thred is about fyi) and skittishness and aggressiveness can be worked on..shes just a puppy yet who misses her mother probably and all her freinds..did i not mention that she lived with a breeder who had over 50 dogs..she probably does miss her mom ...im not gonna breed her if she has any health problems thats 1 and 2 if we r not ready to breed her we wont! if time passes after 2 years old and we dont deside to breed her we r spaying her or sumthing i havent talked that over to my parents..im not alone here i dog sitted for sum neighbors for a couple hours every day and im rlly responsible of taking care of my own dog...of course i will take care of any dog that ppl dont want even if they r males..i said that because i just didnt want them breeding all the time..ill be more than happy to take care of all them.idk what i was saying when i typed that i dont want males..ill be happy to have them in if i have too...dont take that the wrong way either..im not just saying that so u tell me other wise. i mean it..im asking ppl things cause im researching still jeez! im not gonna breed her without knowing what im getting myself into!

Ok that sounds much better! I just really upset over things like this. There are just too many dogs in shelters to suit me. We try very hard to have buyers before we breed. Occasionally we do end up with a very large litter and we don't always have enough buyers and we end up keeping some for awhile.

I'm happy to hear that you are going to do some research before you even think about breeding! Try to find a local breeder (any breed) and talk to them about breeding, what things to look for if something goes wrong, etc.

yea before we start the research(well i started at least but when my parents start) we r going to call the lady where we got her from..she did an amazing job with lilu(my dog) shes gorgeous i wish i can post it on here..but im trying to find a link so my phone can send it :) heres a question...say i wanted to breed her but i didnt wanna keep the male what can i do??..remember no doggy parks around here and i cant cross breed her definetly..??????

gladd to hear sumeone is finally pleased with what im doing lol..shelby how many dogs do u have?? and i love german shepards..we were gonna get one but my baby sister was born and they get a little to big for a baby..lilu was a surprise to me on my bday if i didnt post this on here..ive wanted a dog for 7 years and i got my dream dog :D

If you end up with a male that you can't get rid of, neuter him and list him for a small adoption fee. You can not cross breed mother and son. Bad genetics there.

Being willing to keep your pups or take them back is responsible breeding.

I currently have 5 GSDs. 2 of them are pups from our last litter (of 9) One is a female we are keeping to replace the mother. We got 3 litters from her and adopted her out on a spay contract so she can't be bred any more. We felt 3 litters was plenty. She has earned her retirement. She actually went to live with my oldest son. The other is a male that is still listed for sale. We still have the father of the litter, a non related female, and a half brother.

Again as I said it is all about being responsible and making sure you can provide a forever home or find a forever home for them.

heres a question...say i wanted to breed her but i didnt wanna keep the male what can i do

Shelby the OP meant the 'stud' dog. She's saying (even though having studs n stud fees explained to her), that she is going to have to buy a male to breed from but then doesn't know what to do with it.

Also we've explained more than once that females and males are easily kept together... it's called neutering and spaying. You get the boys neutered as soon as they're old enough, if they're still in the house with an/more than one unspayed female. Or you get all unspayed females done... simple.

We've also given very in depth sources of information, explained that they should have an experienced breeder on hand that can 'physically' come by to help if any complications arose. Particularly the breeder they got the dog from.

I feel pretty much all advice is falling on deaf ears.

I think the op needs to have a look at what 'backyard breeders' are :good:

Is your dog pedigreed? If she wasn't, then her pups most probably won't make much at all. People with pedigree dogs, tend to be iffy with mating their dogs with a non-pedigree.

A dog has to be pedigreed at birth (well, here in the UK they do), if not, then they won't be.

To be fair, and it does seem like I've barely said anything positive on here. The OP did say there is high demand in her area for pups. She also said her dogs breeder would take on any pups that they didn't want/couldn't keep. So although I personally would only ever intentionally breed a pedigree dog that has been fully vet checked and who's lineage I knew, I would happily purchase/rehome a dog that doesn't come with papers, and have nothing against cross breeds eg. from a rescue centre.

So yeah I do agree BethK, the OP shouldn't expect to gain anything financially from the pups if they're raised properly on high quality food, wormed and vaccinated aswell as house trained and such. But it does seem the demand is there...

Having said that, as Shelby said, even if loads of people do want the pups, you still want to ensure they're going to the right homes. And you don't want to end up in a situation where you have no choice but to give them to the females original breeder.

this is what I would call breeding for the sake of it, just so the op can have a few pupps running about
if the demand is there lopcally hire a mini buss and go for a day out at the shelter

scot :)

I know it maybe silly to say but people seem to be reassured by a pedigree paper. My friend has 3 pups from her male's last breed and they are ripping her house apart, even though they are trained. After all, they are puppies, trained or not :good:

It's a lot of time and dedication, she works from home, which has helped. The OP has to take into consideration that someone may well have to be home 24/7, that the vets bills will outweigh the cost of a pup sale.

I would advise the OP to take a look at the stats of local rescue centers and how many dogs/pups come into them on a yearly basis, before breeding.

Everyone says pedigreed papers, I have a GSD that has WORLD competition bloodlines in the sport we train in. His lines come from dogs that competed on the USA World team. Goregous pigment, awesome structure. Perfect hips and elbows. Just an all around beautiful dog.

Guess what? I won't breed him.

yes my dog is pedigreed..if i do have to buy a male spanish water dog i will most likely neuter him no questions asked after the first mating defiently :)..but we r not sure about spaying lilu..say she has 6 pups 3 male 3 female i will keep one female and try to find homes for the other one..check out the homes...see is its good for a little while..wait a while till the pups grow up a bit..then give em away to those who r rdy for one....if i have some left over i will be happy to keep them :)
shelby why wont u breed the GSD??
what is OP??

OP is "original poster"

I will not breed him because he has a slight surface issue. He does not like new "brushed concrete" (concrete with a rough finish)and totally freaks out when I make him walk across it. He crouches low and acts scared. He doesn't like the way if feels on his feet. If it is older concrete that has worn down a bit he doesn't mind it. It just isn't a trait that I would want passed down to puppies.

He is the first dog in my sig.

You would not have to purchase a stud dog. There are tons of studs out there you can just pay a stud fee. Personally, we do not breed outside our own dogs but it's an option.

my friend breeds her GS, the first b*tch was one that she came across by chance in the local dog park and stalked the owner

Where there is a means, there is away.

I would take a mongral or rescue with no issues but there are people out there, that unfortunately, want to show off that they have a purebred

can my dog breed with say a spanish water dog mix??my dog is a purebred

yeah but they will be mongrals tbh

you know what mix that dog has in it? you have to look at certain health issues, each breed carries atleast 1.
