Dawn On The Reef

ooo cant wait to see the outcome.

my little acro is extending his polyps :good: and il admit my water isnt perfect at the minute. Phosphates have crept up a tad.
Only thing with sps is there isny any movement, so i think id always stay mixed sps and lps

Been out buying again, seems like the natural thing to do when your off on holiday.
My latest aquisition, is a V2 Skim 400, Protein Skimmer. I accidentally broke some clips off my little nano skimmer so my hand was forced really. Havn't set her up yet as I'm off to get some SPS frags tonight, so I'll get those settled first then I'll think about getting to grips with this baby. It's huge in comparison.

Well see ya all tomorrow with new pics of SPS corals and the aformentioned skimmer installation.

Well I got my Coral frags this morning and not yesterday as planned due to bloomin Christmas shoppers clogging up the roads. Bah Humbug
Anyways I managed to get to the other side of Belfast this morning to pick them up. You think my skimmer was big, this lad had a skimmer as tall as me and the cylinder was a foot in diameter, then again his tank is around 8x2x3. Monster. £10,000 spent on it so far.
Anyway back to reality
Here are some of the small SPS frags he gave me. I didn't want anything too big and equally I didnt want anything that relied on too critical of a chemical balance.

I have then all installed now and I will post some pics tomorrow.

Nice lookin frags
Yeah, and all for free which is a rarity over on this side.
Fellow Belfast reefer gave me them, when I was down looking at his setup. Jeez my wee nano could fit 10 fold into his sump.
Just trying them at present to see if they'll take to my light/flow. Most have polyps except for the little Acro sp. I think its called (back top right)
I really hope the two groups of Pink Histerix take on the rock wall, as these are my favourite at the moment.
I'm also maybe gonna pick up another wee Sun Coral for the dark and dismal left bottom corner. After that it's lookin pretty much like an upgrade I'm afraid.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Enjoy the rest of your day

Hi CF Merry Christmas to you and your family...
As I've said on many occasions I dont use the bottle methods to feed the sun coral. All I use is a large syringe and a length of airline.
Most sun corals will fully fledge late at night or early morning when its dark, but they will swell when they smell food.
So I melt some Cyclopeeze in a little tub and cover this with Live Phytoplankton, I add 2 syringe full of aquarium water to melt the cyclopeeze.
Then I squirt some of this liquid food right over the closed sun coral. Now I go away and make a cup of tea and relax for around half an hour.
Next I pop a cube of either Mysis, Brineshrimp or Krill into the tub and let that melt into the mixture.
By this time the sun coral will be inflated enough (tentacles out) for you to feed this mixture via the syringe/airline method. Feed each polyp in turn to keep it healthy. I give the shrimp a little sample of the mix inbetween to keep them happy and dont disturb the sun coral too much.
I feed the sun coral every other day and things seem to be fine thus far.
They do take a fair bit of work and time to look after but I think they're well worth the effort.
I hope that was of some help
