culture Rotifers and Copepods Me too, it is really easy! Only thing is I am still waiting for my Mandy (that also eats frozen) so I am over run by the things

to begin with. I have set up two large plastic drinking water jars and run an airline from the pump into one then an airline out and into the other jar. I use room temp saltwater mixed to 1.024 for both foodstuffs. I'm feeding Live PhytoFeast to the Copepods and DT's Live photoplankton to the Rotifers. Yeah, I too am feeding Phytofeast - I have one plastic small tank with them both in

Bought a little USB microscope today cause my little handheld magnifying glass just wasn't cutting it anymore (poor eyesight due to the ageing process LOL) Know the feeling there BigC, seems the older you get the print gets smaller and your waistline gets bigger

Tell me about it Sef.
Well here's ma wee basic setup for now, I may go bigger with this as I get into it a little more and I read somewhat more material on the techie side of culturing these

Below I have posted a few shots from my first play with the microscope, as you can see they're a bit X Rated. So anyone with a nervous disposition should divert there eyes now.

couple of questions for you,

quite fancy a dwarf angel myself. Whats the one you have like with eating and coral munching?Cant find much info on them only flames etc

Ben, i used to have a flame and mine did coral much, the pain in the bum, and ive herd coral beauts do too. But saying that its also down to the fish. Ive seen some with no issues.

But i think what they are more fond of is the tissues of trachys and LPS brains etc but not tenticled LPS like cataphyllias or frogspawn . Softies no issues what so ever dunno with SPS though.

Looking sweet once again BigC :good: very jealous!

Saw one of those angels you have today BigC, very nice looking fish. I didnt come home with it though...dont want to copy :)
Still on the lookout

Ben If you like the Angel and you've done you homework on it then just go with it man. Dont worry what others think about you copying them. Look at my background, I'm actually quite flattered that someone took an interest and copied and whats more improved upon it.
A little information for you. According to some magazine material I've been re-reading on the genus Centropyge and Paracentropyge the following conclusions were drawn, one of the species least likely to cause any damage to your inverts include C. acanthops. and to date I haven't seen him go for anything, he's always busy at the rockwork but not the coral polyps. Incidentially Flame Angels are in the top bracket for having a go at coral polyps. It also goes on to mention that you should keep them well fed (sml frequent feeds) and provide them with some Nori to nibble on.

nah its not that, im starting to think that i want my fish stock to be a bit different. So im thinking about re-homing a few of mine for a change. Do think i want an angel of some sort though. Would like on with mainly blue colouring if i can find one

The Centropyge argi is mostly blue :D
That one is in the link I posted as well.

Thats a good link KJ. many thanks for that also.
From that link I have deduced that I know posess C. acanthops (yellow caudal and more orange in the back) and not C. aurantonotus as first thought due to this sp. posessing a blue tail colouration and yellow back. Which makes me even more chuffed as I prefer the African sp much better.
Thanks again

I'm like your tank particularly the sun coral and elegance coral. My elegance looks very different to yours though I wonder if they are geographical morphs? The green colour is more intense on mine and it has shorter tentacles. How many fish are in that tank now?

All the best and kindest regards

How many fish are in that tank now?

Five at the moment M8
2x Common Clowns...Amphiprion ocellaris
1x Yellow Watchman Goby...Cryptocentrus cinctus
1x Royal Gramma...Gramma loreto
1x Flameback Angel...Centropyge acanthops

Pretty heavy stocking, I know, but everything is kinda small and I perform 2x12ltr waterchanges weekly. They seem quite content and are healthy, deporting and feeding well

Wow, looks awesome BigC. Can you shoehorn anymore corals into that tank? :)

Hi Ski,
You Like It Huh!
LOL
Yeah now you mention it there is quite a lot of coral in there and the list is pretty extensive when I sit and write all the names down.
Do you not remember the early days of this setup and how long it's taken to even stick a sausage in that tank, I'm making the most of things now.
I'm getting quite adicted to branching SPS type corals. Just had a local guy on, offering me free frags. (said I'd call in the New Year).
Lovin this side of the hobby

Gonna try a couple of new SPS tomorrow evening. Placed high up on the rock and in good flow. I'm getting three frags namely a yellow Acropora sp. and a pink Birdsnest coral (Seriatopora hystrix) and a plating monti. I am giving these a go to see what they go like in my tank as the M. digitata is really doing well and has produced extra skeletal growth.
I will post some pics when the new arrivals are in.

BigC

This is an experiment as I may well ditch the softies and make the transition to SPS types.
We'll have to see.
