Danny's Cycle...

Well, you're on Day 10 of your cycle. On average that would put you 1/3 the way through. Hang in there, looks like its going ok.

*UPDATED*

Nitrite has dropped to <0.25ppm.

Looks about 0.05ppm :good:

And I haven't even performed anymore water changes, and I fed last night also...?!

Please say I'm nearly finished with my cycle?

Hi there Danny,

Yes, this would seem to show that the Nitrite(NO2) processing bacteria have finally had a growth surge and that the colony is now large enough to do a better job. This is the way these things happen. They are not linear, they happen all of a sudden in little spurts. As with all these things though, the proof is in the multiday trends and so you just have to keep rolling along and enjoy your, hopefully, sustained, new lower numbers.

Remember, the goal in any Fish-In Cycling Situation is to observe zero ppm ammonia and zero ppm nitrite(NO2) from 2 tests per day for 2 days running without changing any water. If that occurs then one can consider one's system to be cycled. At that point its wise to watch for "blips" for the rest of the week or for a week, depending on the schedule and how desparately one wants to add the first 2 or 3 small fish. The week of watching is very similar to the "qualifying week" idea for fishless cycling.

Hey Waterdrop :)

Thank you for your reply.
I was getting eager for someone to give me some feedback on my low numbers for the last 2 days.

I haven't checked for my Ammonia for the last few tests... possibly quite bad for me, but seems like every time I do test for it, there is 'no trace' at all...?
So I do full tests only every now and then...

Should I lower the amount of water changes I perform to every other day now? or wait until the Nitrite raises above 0.25ppm or I see any sign of Ammonia? - and perform a water change once a week, with a gravel clean... as so it was cycled?

To me it just seems that every time I clean something within my tank the parameters seem to drop and become consistent...?
I'm not sure if you were aware but I recently cleaned my filter because it was throwing out waste every time I performed a water change and turned it back on...

Maybe that's just a coincidence?

Well one really want's to add more fish now as I only have the male Guppy in the tank as the female died the other day... :(
But really I would like the tank to have been cycled before I actually add the fish...

Yes, you're a good man Danny to take such good care of that guppy your relative dropped in on you when you were planning a fishless cycle. That was a bit of hard luck. Yes, as long as you are fooling around at about 0.25ppm and below you can try different things, like waiting a bit longer, to see which way the nitrite goes from the 0.25, up or down. As you say, not disturbing things has its benefits too as long as the poisons don't jump up on you.

Congratulations danny, its been a hard slog for you lol

Fingers crossed now that both ammonia and nitrite stay at zero for next 4-5 days, if so, you can consider yourself cycled :good:

Andy

Hey,

Thank you :)

I'm not really expecting them to stay at zero to be honest...
But if they do that would have been a really quick cycle? by what I am going by on here anyway?

I will test every 12 hours now and just hope I see blue ;) haha

great news, well done.......fingers crossed it stays that way.

mine are at 0 too now, have been for a few days, trouble is my ammonia is showing again, only a trace, no more than 0.15, but its there. hope yours doesn't do the same.
