Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Not having enough tests for everyone who warrants having one is awful. Here in U S they do not have nearly enough test available.

Apparently March madness is still going to go on? Just there will be no fans in the stands. It will still be filmed though. I think it’s a smart idea.

President Trump just declared this to be a National Emergency. He is speaking right now here in the US. Well over a half million tests should be available sometime next week. Google will be providing a screening website. If you have symptoms and testing is warranted, drive-thru testing will be available. Some public schools here in Massachusetts are suspending classes. Interest will be waived on student loans for now. 46 of 50 states in US now have cv invections. Hunker down and stay safe.

A good website to track the present status of CV is this one:

Ok, so keep in mind I am a nurse who works in a virus hostile profession, so my answers below 'may' differ slightly than the average citizen.

  • What is the present state of the virus in your country or state?
These are the current stats for Canada; as a whole we are faring well and have learned a lot from SARS. Still is spreading, but thankfuly one one fatality at present.

Canada 158 +16 1 11 146 1 4.2

  • Do you know anyone who is infected?
Not personally
  • What restrictions does your government have to prevent the spread of the virus?
Public schools in Ontario have been closed x2 additional weeks beyond march break, and potentially longer should this not start to resolve at that time. Most large venues (concerts ect) have been cancelled, sporting events are cancelled or suspended. At the hospital level, screening prior to entry for standard symptoms or travel areas, but this is likely to become more scrutinous. LTC facilities are requiring all visitors be screened before entry to facility. These are particularly at risk d/t comorbities and the age group associated with these homes. Home sef isolation for those with minimal symptoms.
  • Are you making any preparations such as stocking up on food and buying masks?
I use masks from my workplace; hand sanitizer is a necessity! I am not hoarding items such as toilet paper. We did buy some extra supplies as our kids are home more, but nothing "disaster releated". Virox wipes (antiviral wipes) are also a necessity to wipe workplace areas and shared spaces.
  • What is your opinion about the coronavirus..is it overblown; or do you feel there will be a pandemic?
This is NOT over-blown IMO. The US government has downplayed this outbreak since the beginning despite contrary information from the WHO; this has created the panic you now see in the US and the bloom of cases there. IMO the actions of the Canadian government have been sufficient BUT the closure of the US/Canada border should have been initiated to stop the flow of potentially infected travellers entering Canada (or vise versa). This is a very virulent virus which can be devestating to lower class, elderly and the young. If what has happened to the EU as a whole is not an example of how it can spread, I'm not sure how else to illustrate to you how fast this can get through a population.

We have a number of confirmed cases in the U.S., 22 I believe. The first was about a month ago. Today’s was the first death from the virus.

incorrect:

USA 2,030 +333 41 31 1,958 10 6.1
you have 2, 030 cases UP 333 from this morning. 41 deaths.

You can track the data on this pandemic with this app, which gives real time updates on rates of infection per country (given they actually report that data ie. N.Korea).

Germany stats
Germany3,675+9308+2463,621943.
