7 Foot, 1074 Litres, 284 Gallons.

the rays im starting with don't even cost £75 each! the ones i want to end up with will cost me about £2500 for a pair!
a lot of people with big tanks will buy a big oscar, normally big oscars are what people have taken back to the shop when it has outgrown their tank and so are being sold on cheap. i know 2-3" oscars are around £5 at least and i often see 10-12" oscars in the lfs he says i could have for a tenner. cheap as chips, except i don't want one! lol

Lmao!

£2500! For a pair!?!

Bloody hell! Thats alot of money your spreading around.

And aha i had the same offer appointed to me :)

Two fully grown alibino Oscars for £15. And 2 fully grown clown loach's for £20...

Mom nearly cry'ed over the fact we dident have a big enough tank for the o's still i would rather grow tem from young and wait patiantly for them to grow big...

If i was going to get 2 oscar's they'll have to be..
1x Albino
1x Wild
And i'm still shocked over the fact you have to pay £2500! for the pair!

if i signed up sooner i could of told you about the rays!

The type of rays he's after are still quite rare.

People tend to get big oscars as rescues from too small tanks, although I chose to 'rescue' 2 tiny baby ones from my LFS LOL.

Same.

Well used to anyway.

my dad said not to but seeing there little face's made me want them so i made them get some for us :)

I really hope you've not bought oscars :(
Na not for my 60 Litre if i did. I'd reckon they'd have Hole in the head if i did.

im waiting until xmas for a 75 gallon for one

( in my previous comment i was on about the past when i had a 238 gallon )

the rays i want you would really struggle to get them for less that about £2200 but £2500 is more realistic, they are what i have always wanted so in the long run i do believe they are worth every penny. if only i got this tank a few years ago when these rays were about half the price! nevermind.
the rays you have seen will either be reticulatus, which you can pick up for £40 or motoro which are about £60 and get too big for my tank!
i am getting a pair or maybe a trio of reticulatus just after new year, because i feel i should gain a year or two of experience at least before i go ahead and buy the expensive ones which ultimately i want to breed.
anyway it will be a while before i get ome more pictures as nothing is due to change anytime soon, just looking forward to getting the rays!

Dave

It has to be said though that comparatively to other hobbies £2500 for like top end "equipment" (for lack of a better word) is quite cheap. If you consider the costs that people in other hobbies pay out for car parts, bikes and cameras etc - this is how I justify spending a lot of money :) ....though admittedly £2500 is probably the total amount I spend on fishkeeping a year lol.

Cant wait for this to make some headway now dave :good:

wills, believe me, i cant wait either!!
yeah, don't get me wrong, bar someone with millions, £2500 is a lot of money to anyone, whether you have it in your back pocket or not! when i eventually do get the cash to be able to spend on the fish i will, also after i feel confident i have enough experience. still though i will get the reticualted rays first, if and when they breed i will be confident my tank is right for them! the girlfriend is buying me the pair of rays now as my christmas present lol so may appear before christmas rather than after new year!
i do want the p14 rays eventually but i think i will buy one female first let it settle and grow a bit then introduce a male. it will all happen in good time!
i don't want to sound disappointing but yeah, the rays might appear soon and i will definitely keep this updated with pictures, but then nothing much exciting will happen for a while!
might pick up a hypostomus luteus from pier aquatics, and still waiting for the right tiger fish to turn up!

cheers!

Dave

then in the next 5 months you'll end up the multi millionare and we wont be seein gyou for a long while as you've opened your own aquatics zoo thing :)

Lmao

Good Luck!

And my girlfriend would'nt buy me a pair of ray's NOR a fish tank since i always go on about fish to her it annoys her

any ideas on how to change her mind :p?

i aim to breed them lol, the reticulatus aren't worth a right lot though so not doing it for the money, just to gain experience really and more for the satisfaction. when i eventually get the black rays they are worth quite a bit so will get a bit of money if i breed them but it wouldn't be making money they would be paying for their own keep! eventually and hopefully!
no ideas on how to convince the other half lol, i got her interested first, as when i met her i had no tanks as i had a 2 year break, so she got a fluval roma 125 (which i do everything, as she is clueless!) and then i got a fluval roma 240, she sort of liked it, an acceptable size and can fit some fish in that she wanted but couldn't have in the 125,
so i go through all the fish i like but can't fit in the 240, get her to like them too and there ya go, i walk in with a 1000 litre 7 foot tank, she doesn't like it though, its too big she says, its too late, its there now lol! haha

Yea.. my girlfreinds dad USED to own a Rio 240. But he sold it becaue he went into debt :p And I TRYED To get her into keeping a betta tank ( as i presuaded her but then she said no since she would'nt look after it proberly)

i have my ways getting around her though :D

good stuff, well i hope you get the tank you want one day, everything takes time and it wouldn't do you any favours rushing into things, we all have the rest of our lives to achieve what we want so it is never too late!
like the saying ' good things come to those who wait' lol
i hope to upgrade my tank in a couple of years, but if i carry on at university it will be about 4-5 years as i can't upgrade my tank until i upgrade the house lol. hopefully once im sorted i will find a house with a nice big garden to build a fish house and hopefully have something along the lines of a 12'x6'x4', i'll be happy at that lol

You;ll get that and find something that outgrows the tank and end up with another tank. You;ll only end up running out of money or space, or in my case both:( Planning on winning the lottery personally then i can buy a huge tank and house .
