i cant see a arowana sharing his space at the top of the water with those characins
and once your tigrinus is fully grown it could eat those i reckon, they are the perfect shape to slide down
they max out around 8-10" dont they?

yeah they max at about 10", thats what i thought, i was thinking about the arowana but as you mentioned the shovelnose would surely pop them off, didn't think that far into it!, shame really, i love the pink tailed characins!
i have £250 deposit for alex, for the rays and he said he would hold them for a month or so, but i don't think im going to have the rest of the cash within that time so i think im going to have to tell him i can't have them, thats also a shame as they would have been perfect for my tank!
im still going to be trying to think of ways to raise a grand before i really have to tell him i cant take them! hopefully something will come up! makes me regret going to university now!

looked at the leiarius pictus, unsure of whether they would get along with the zebra shovelnose, will look into it a bit furhter.
got 2 rays coming the last week in december hopefully, may have to wait until after bank holiday, will wait and see, just getting a pair of reticulatus for now, if and when they breed, i will consider myself capable of keeping p14's or black diamonds and will upgrade as and when this happens.
also been looking at arowanas but going to wait until i have the cash for the exact one i like instead of getting just any i can afford.
been concentrating on my cutteri breeding at the moment and just recieved 10 rotkeil severums between 2 and 3 inch and are doing really well so also concentrating on them.
will get some more pictures of the big tank soon but nothing much has changed really!

thanks for the nice comments,

Dave

just a couple of new pictures of the tank. Had 2 lots of almond leaves in there now, i love the amber colour the water goes, hopefully the rays will too!
have sorted out the rays and they will be coming just after christmas, well probably be delivered shortly after new year, then may add another female shortly after to make a trio of 1 male and 2 females. will leave adding the arowana for a while and concentrate on getting the rays settled in!

yeah liam i got it working, simple really, my fault all along.
in the big eheim there is 3 media trays, well 4 including the sponges. and i put a polishing pad in there, it was meant to go under a plate thing, but i put it on top so bits of it kept getting sucked into the outlet, thus blocking all the flow, took me a few days to see what was happening lol, never mind, all amended now!
got the rays being delivered shortly after new year but may extend to a trio not long after, will see how they go.
cant wait, im just getting impatient!
going to the lfs in a minute to get some food so will see what beasts he has in! probably none lol :-(

betta_246, thanks!

cheers,
Dave

I take it you're going to charge people to come and look at it judging by the chairs lined up ;)

I'd pay anyway!!

Looks great, wish I had the time, patience and agreeing other half to get one like that!

 I thought that too, or a barrier to stop people from getting too close and putting sticky finger marks on it.

lol the chairs are there because i was on my way out, the dog stays in the back room with the tank when people are out otherwise he starts eating the sofa and stuff, he still jumps at the fish trying to eat them, he wouldn't be able to break the thick glass but im sick of cleaning his saliva off the front of the glass and am a bit worried he could scratch. so until he learns he aint gonna get a fish, just a sore nose, the easy solution is the chairs!
you might have seen other posts by 'dave_replacement'?? that was me because inchworm banned me for 2 weeks for saying the name given to female dogs, totally innocently so a bit pathetic really, but anyway i made another name so i could still post!
just been to the lfs to get some frozen food but no big fish in this week :-(
he did say he is going to see if he can get the rays cheaper than the ones i've found so that would be good, wouldn't have to pay the £30 delivery!!

Lmao Ray's down my area where going for £75 Each. only saw the two. last week went in there and they was gone! along with big oscar's and other fish...

Seriuosly who would buy a big oscar? i mean you can easy'ly grow a small one xD

Nice tank.

I'll pay £1 to view it :p

the rays im starting with don't even cost £75 each! the ones i want to end up with will cost me about £2500 for a pair!
a lot of people with big tanks will buy a big oscar, normally big oscars are what people have taken back to the shop when it has outgrown their tank and so are being sold on cheap. i know 2-3" oscars are around £5 at least and i often see 10-12" oscars in the lfs he says i could have for a tenner. cheap as chips, except i don't want one! lol
