Awe thanks josh for posting vid :D x

Uh-oh now there's a random video?

If you press the replay button on the bottom left it will play Vader again :)

Are those gloves used with the cows?  Can you use them for cleaning fish tanks?

What are you feeding him Shelster i.e. what is the pellet and flake?

What a gorgeous fish!!
Am also interested in what you are feeding him. I've bought some brineshrimp eggs and salt and am going to try to hatch some for food once I've got my betta tank sorted. Any advice anyone? I've read about converting a pop bottle with an airstone etc - is it really as easy as it looks?

Thanks guys, I think he is a handsome chap :D
Yes I feed him the JBL flakes (posted a pick on page three) that is what he is eating in the video, and also these:

He was being fed this in the shop I got him from.

I asked the guy if he gets through quite a lot of bettas but he says no, as he likes to know that they are eating frequently before they go :D

Water parameters this morning are:

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-10-20

Yay!! Will check again at lunchtime but from the looks of things Vader has had a comfortable night :)

RCA - yes the gloves are arm length gloves used on farms for many things. When I worked at the vets we used them for taking faecal specimens and all sorts so nothing nasty in them.
I just thought it was an ideal 'bag' to acclimatise Vader safely :D

Thanks re: the gloves, it is just that I was looking for something for when I clean the tanks out.  I have looked at pond gloves but these are too thick.  I use washing up gloves (only used for tank cleaning, with separate ones for the Quarantine tank), but I find that they are not long enough for the larger tanks and often fill with water.  I do not always use gloves but find when I do I get a better grip.

Re: food my profile tells you what I feed all mine, but also check out this food, Moist Pelleted Fish Food, I like it because it is already moist, which is good for the Bettas as they are prone to bloat which can kill them.  White Mosquito Larvae is their favourite and also their natural diet.  It is funny watching this little male with it, as he is so small he snaps at it then proudly parades with it in his mouth, as if to say look what I have.

Wow. Amazing set up and amazing fish. I bet your very proud. Makes me want one lol Cant believe I aint seen this thread until now.
Definately a tank of the month entry! Enter:)

Ooh get one slim, surely you can push the Mrs to one tiny teeny incy wincy 30 litre? :D let her pick the betta :)

SLIM what would you suggest an ideal photoperiod for this tank?
Obviously flow is minimal and I'm using daily ferts. :D

I'm another that would love to have a betta, I always have done :p

In fact a couple of years ago I thought I could convert the loft into a fish room to breed them

I planned it, started looking for tanks and everything. I didn't have any money though... I was 14

Don't laugh ;)

You would think so huh? Lol, when my daughter gets abit older il set something like this up in her bedroom:)
As for photoperiod, iv always thought 8-9 hours is a good baseline.

Great idea - I was going to set ' Vader' up in the boys room but then thought the only chance I'd get to do maintenance is when they're around :/

Ok great ill try 7hrs and see how the plants go :)

Btw bettas have only grown on me since this forum :D

Time for some more pics:

Spot Vader lol - sometimes he is so dark I panic he's jumped out! Even though that's impossible as the feeding corner cut out of the glass I have placed over pump at back of tank.

RCA do you think the food I have will be ok for now?

How often would you recommend the frozen?

Feed a little of something everyday?

Thank you all for showing an interest

You wanna trip those roots back on the anubias. Itll encourage growth and it will ancore itself to the wood alot quicker:)

Oh, he is so like my old boy in his hay day - I hope to start a topic on his recent move soon.

The food you have is meant for Bettas so it should be OK.  The only thing I would be careful of is too much dried food, what I tend to do is soak it in garlic (Seachem).  Not for too long or it goes to mush, but long enough to make it damp.

I feed the frozen about once or twice a week, and tend to use the brine shrimp in garlic, plus blood worms, although they are more for the bottom feeders.

I have just picked up their favourite, live White Mosquito Larvae, and it is just coming up to room temperature prior to feeding.  I tend to feed this fortnightly for a few days as one meal and the other "dry" foods for the other meals.

The Hikari Betta Bio Gold pellets are good and they like these, but sometimes have to be trained to take them.  My girls will not be trained ;)

Hope this helps, and you are welcome re: our interest, you have done a great job.

Vader has had his first water change today - he seemed to quite like he attention!

I'm loving what an interactive fish they are! - whenever I enter the room, he's straight up to the feeding corner :D

Thanks SLIM - I wasn't 100 % sure what I wanted to do with the anubia as I quite liked the wood on its own, but having said that, the idea is growing on me. I'll still be able to take the wood out for a quick scrub.

In terms of tank parameter monitoring - I had a very slight reading of ammonia on day two or three after he had been introduced. (I always compare to RO for comparison other than api chart).

I therefore held off his food that day and it had rectified itself by the following day.

Never had any nitrite issues - I do still check just in case.

Oh and guess what?..........

........... I now have a 35 litre winging its way to him lol!

I love this tank so may keep him in it until I make more room, but I got a good deal on it (thanks for the heads up Techen :D)

So watch this space :D - oh it's a arcadia 35 litre.

Eventually I may use this tank as a hospital tank and get rid of my 30 litre one.

OR

I may keep this one AND the arc for bettas and get another :D PLEASE DON'T TELL MY HUSBAND!!

Glad you are enjoying him.  That is the attraction of them, they respond to you, apart from my one "rude" Betta

Imagine the tank full of girls, they all come to me whenever I enter the room.

Does he do the wiggle dance for you yet?

I love it too Shelster, you have done a great job with it, one to be proud of.
