12L Micro Tank

Found another exoskeleton this morning so am further encouraged that they are eating and growing and needing to moult to make room for the extra growth.

I am working on getting my own nano set up in the next year or so! I'm looking into the fluval chi (6.6 tall) and I like what I see so far! I've been looking online and on amazon and I have a seller that sells red, blue and yellow shrimp! I have to say, the blue and yellow are my favorites, but I might just have to get red too!

Thanks for your interest, akainechu!  I'm really pleased with my set-up now.
The Fluval Chi is a bit bigger than mine at 19 L.
To keep the shrimp colours distinct, you might want to consider keeping them in separate tanks or they will interbreed and could revert to wild colouring.

your welcome mamashack, and i have finally got fish in my tank more importantly i got some amano shrimp and omg they worked a treat on my algae, algae is now non existent, how good are your jelly shrimp at keeping algae down?, i have since upped my lights to 12hr a day, two 6hr periods with a 2hr lunch break in the middle, see how my tank goes with that, i hope the amano shrimp can contain the algae and my plants thrive.

but loving how your tank is looking so far keep up the gd work and i hope that moss carpet grows well :D

Thanks Zik - it's coming along nicely now. Have to admit when I first got it I thought it had got too squashed in the post - it had very little protection. However I am pleased with the way it has recovered and is growing albeit quite slowly.
The shrimp went into this relatively new tank so there wasn't much visible algae evident altho they have been eating something other than the food I put in - the hot favourites being the moss mat and the moss ball or something growing on them.
The only "algae" in the tank at the moment is what was imported on the anubias (diatoms I think). The shrimp haven't shown any interest in that tho the little hitchhiker snail has been put back in there as "he" seems to like it.
Any photos for your tank yet?

I'm amazed just how much dinky equipment is out there! lol

You're right about the coloring, it's just so hard to pick which color!!! I would probably go with the yellow or blue, depending on which substrate I pick up!

Mine look quite colourful in the photos I've posted but there are days where I struggle to see them at all against the gravel and especially the rocks which are grey. I guess it's all part of the camouflage thing going on, but so frustrating at times! I only see them if they move whilst I'm looking.
Wish I'd gone for black sand substrate now! lol

Just a quick one here, but there's a chap selling some shrimp substrate for £5 a bag in another recent post. It looks nice and dark!

Thanks, fm I saw that advert and am going to have a look locally cos of the postage cost. May well be cheaper to buy from here, but I just want to check it out first.

Just had a quick look for shrimp sand and most seem to say they adjust the pH to 6.5 which is quite a bit lower than my is running at present - in fact they are all running at 7.8. PlanetInverts.com says they can be kept anywhere between 6.0 and 8.0, but I'm wary of changing what they have become used to.
So maybe I'll stick with what I have and continue playing Where's Wally every day! lol

I agree, perhaps a large change like that, especially if done quickly, could be a disaster. I might be doing the cherries a disservice, but I wouldn't gamble it either.

Here's the pic of a shrimplet, as close as I could possibly get with my rubbish camera phone...

There's a Red Line on the cholla log and a F1 just behind. Below the F1's head there's a tiny cone shaped shrimplet who could only be a matter of weeks old, I think. Extremely cute up close!

Awww how sweet! Have you tried editing the picture on your phone? I've only very recently discovered that feature on mine (particularly the crop and auto-enhance) and it has helped me get some reasonable pictures for here.

i would worry to much about the change, all the shrimp will do is shed there skins to adapt, i never have and tbh never will acclimatise fish n shrimp into my tanks i just sit the bag on top then poor some water in and after 10 mins put the fish in and i have yet to loose any fish or shrimp but thats me
