I get the film even with a spray bar agitating the surface. I just do a minor water change with a plastic jug,scooping it out. Once I add new water to top back up,the film is gone.

Ive found that the square algae pads you hold with your hand are the most effective. Not tried those JBL cleaners that you wear as a glove though,but they look like they'd be easy to use.

Yep,really nice looking start up . This forum is a great place tbh,just someone telling you a couple of little things like spreading the stems out a bit can make your tank look way better.

They dont school much tbh,as they have so much room and they are the biggest fish in the tank atm.They move around in groups of 3 usually. I probably need a few more to fill them out in such a large tank.

Ive had 12 glowlights in my tank for about 10 days now,they are becoming darker in colour as theyve got used to the tank and feeding well. They have flashes of white and red on the fins too,I'm quite pleased with them.

No,i took the internal filter out,just running the external at the moment. Thanks for the info though,think I'll just stick with cardinals instead of neons and cardinals together like you said. Will have a trip down to the LFS tomorrow and have a look what's available. Cheers. John.

Hi, I have an oily film that forms on the surface of my water,after only a day or two of doing a water change. Is this a problem,and if so,how do you deal with it/remove it? Ive seen some floating carbon tablets online ,will these absorb it? any ideas? Thanks John

I got sent the Eheim battery gravel vac by mistake from an online supplier,when they should have sent the normal syphon vac. Its perfect for cleaning up without disturbing plants ,and while not amazingly powerful,it picks up what you want it to. I use it to clean without uprooting plants,then...

I think Standby is trying to say that you need to set up the inlets/strainers etc first in the tank - then suck water up the inlets into the cannister using the outlet pipe. When the water starts coming through,put the outlet into the tank and turn the filter on. At least i think thats what he...

I was going to use a tetratec ex1200 and the external heater,works out at about 150 quid. I also looked at the Eheim 2178 600t filter with 200w heater built in,but thats 425 quid....... Thanks for the info though, John.

Yep,sounds like you'll have to get a new heater :sad:

A 200w heater on 230-240v supply only draws about 0.8a,so I'd put a 1amp fuse in (2amp would be fine too,probably a better option tbh). Juwel provide a 200w heater for their 260litre tanks,so it should be fine in yours? Maybe it's not kicking out 200w anymore? John.
