    Surface Film

I get the film even with a spray bar agitating the surface. I just do a minor water change with a plastic jug, scooping it out. Once I add new water to top back up,the film is gone.

    New Rio 180

Ive found that the square algae pads you hold with your hand are the most effective. Not tried those JBL cleaners that you wear as a glove though, but they look like they'd be easy to use.

    My Jewul Tank

Yep,really nice looking start up . This forum is a great place tbh, just someone telling you a couple of little things like spreading the stems out a bit can make your tank look way better.

    Large Shoals Of Tetra

They dont school much tbh,as they have so much room and they are the biggest fish in the tank atm. They move around in groups of 3 usually. I probably need a few more to fill them out in such a large tank.

    Large Shoals Of Tetra

Ive had 12 glowlights in my tank for about 10 days now, they are becoming darker in colour as theyve got used to the tank and feeding well. They have flashes of white and red on the fins too,I'm quite pleased with them.

    Large Shoals Of Tetra

No,i took the internal filter out, just running the external at the moment. Thanks for the info though, think I'll just stick with cardinals instead of neons and cardinals together like you said. Will have a trip down to the LFS tomorrow and have a look what's available. Cheers. John.

    Large Shoals Of Tetra

Hi, I have a Juwel Rio 300 (with approx 300 litres of water ,and fairly well planted),and am planning on stocking it with shoals of tetra (cardinals, neons, glowlights),nothing bigger than these types of fish, except for maybe 6-8 of something the size of a columbian tetra/diamond tetra. How many...

    Oily Film On Water Surface

Thanks for the quick reply :good: It looks awful too,I'll have to find something that will suck it up off the surface ,then do the small water change like you said. Thanks

    Oily Film On Water Surface

Hi, I have an oily film that forms on the surface of my water, after only a day or two of doing a water change. Is this a problem, and if so,how do you deal with it/remove it? Ive seen some floating carbon tablets online ,will these absorb it? any ideas? Thanks John

    Battery Powered Gravel Vac?

I got sent the Eheim battery gravel vac by mistake from an online supplier, when they should have sent the normal syphon vac. Its perfect for cleaning up without disturbing plants ,and while not amazingly powerful,it picks up what you want it to. I use it to clean without uprooting plants,then...

    Moonlighting And Food Questions

Hi, I have some led moonlighting on my tank for when the main tubes go off for the night, and was just wondering if I should leave the led's on all night so there is some light in the tank ,or is it best to give the fish some time in total darkness? The other question I have is regarding food...

    Eheim Professional 3 Range

Hmm,its a shame really,I like the neatness of having the heater inside the filter. Will have to look at the Tetratec ex1200 with a Hydor ETH300 heater I think.

    Eheim Professional 3 Range

Hi, I am looking at buying an Eheim Professional 3 external filter,so did a bit of searching on this forum and others regarding reliability and performance etc. I read a few threads saying that some people had some leak problems with 2010 models?,and that the dodgy parts had been...

    Eheim 2213

I think Standby is trying to say that you need to set up the inlets/strainers etc first in the tank - then suck water up the inlets into the cannister using the outlet pipe. When the water starts coming through, put the outlet into the tank and turn the filter on. At least i think thats what he...

Plant Substrate For Juwel Rio 180

Same question from me really too,I'm about to set up a planted tank, and would like a suggestion on which plant substrate to go for. I looked at the Tetratec one ,but if you have any preferences ? I wont be using "real" c02 either  Thanks John.

Hydor External Heater In A 350Litre Tank?

I was going to use a tetratec ex1200 and the external heater, works out at about 150 quid. I also looked at the Eheim 2178 600t filter with 200w heater built in,but thats 425 quid....... Thanks for the info though, John.

    Juwel 200W Heater Question

Yep,sounds like you'll have to get a new heater

    Juwel 200W Heater Question

A 200w heater on 230-240v supply only draws about 0.8a,so I'd put a 1amp fuse in (2amp would be fine too, probably a better option tbh). Juwel provide a 200w heater for their 260litre tanks,so it should be fine in yours? Maybe it's not kicking out 200w anymore? John.

Hydor External Heater In A 350Litre Tank?

Hi, I am planning on getting a Rio 300 (the new 350 litre version)tank, and am wanting to use an external heater. After a bit of research on here ,looked at the Hydor ETH300 ,but according to their website, its recommended for tanks up to 300 litres. The Rio 300 tank comes with a 300w internal...

    My Juwel Rio 240

Hi, Your tank looks awsome,I like the look of the sand especially. I'm at the planning stage at the moment for a tank, and I like the look of sand, but was wondering how easy it is to clean? Ive used gravel before, but never sand - do you use a standard vacuum type substrate cleaner,or is the sand...
