    Compatible Fish?

Thank you :) That's really interesting input. My 2 Knifes will be split up soon. As mentioned above, the larger of the two is moving out very shortly as I don't want to cause any dominance issues between the two, and obviously because of the tank size. The 2 female Fighters are having another...

I'm not :) and it's totally understandable that people are going to respond to what they see written. I have a terrible habit of writing an awful lot, but never giving a clear picture!

    Compatible Fish?

And I fully appreciate that, but it still intrigued me enough to ask :) Oh, and although it probably won't make much difference to opinion - I have re-checked the measurements, and the tank is actually 185l. I got my conversion wrong.

    Compatible Fish?

I take that point and do agree for the most part. My water has tested perfectly since the day I added fish, and the fish themselves are healthy and happy. If ain't broke, I'm not going to fix it. Along with the larger Knife Fish moving out soon, the Neons and Danios will be changing tanks, as...

    Compatible Fish?

As I stated: All of the fish are currently well within the safe limits for the size:capacity ratio and my water conditions are optimal, along with a Fluval 400+ filter which is working admirably. I would never put stress on my fish and if I saw any signs of an unhappy fish I would rectify the...

    Local Pet Store.

Right, time to clarify a few things: The Zebra Danios were chosen as the first fish for the tank, purely because they are rather indestructable and my Husband's Auntie liked the look of them. The reason he drew up a timetable for her is to enable her to learn and appreciate the progression of a...

    Compatible Fish?

I was chatting with a couple of fish keeping friends the other day about the notion of "Community Setups" and what combinations of fish work well. I piped up about my (fairly young..3 months maybe?) 100l setup which has the following: 2 x Ghost Knife Fish 2 x Congo Tetra 2 x Female Bettas 2 x...

    Local Pet Store.

Ah, now this sounds very similar to an experience my Husband's Auntie has recently had: She wanted to start keeping fish, so myself and my Husband said we'd help guide her and assist with the setup of the tank (80l w/internal filteration, heater and Glo light unit). We made sure she learnt...

    8" Plec

8/9" Plec with lovely markings. Eating very well on cucumber and algae wafers. Not destructive at all. I only keep Ancistrus now, so he's a bit out of place. Collection from Norwich. £5-00

    New Cories

Congratulations on the new Cories. We have around ..I think 50 of them in total. All colours, shapes and sizes. Best of luck with the breeding - it's something we've never had a problem with. A nice cold rush of fresh water seems to get them "in the mood" :hyper:

    Rubbish Fluval.

I've had similar problems with Fluval in the past, and like others I will only use Eheim now. Glad you've come up with a solution of sorts to keep it working.

    New Guppy Mother...

I'm quite shocked by how many we still have - I've managed to rehome over 100 so far, but still have 100s left. A lady is coming to collect 20 later on this evening, but that won't even make a dent in the total. I have seperated as many of the males from the females as I can - although many of...

Abandoned Cat - If You're In East Sussex, Can You Help?

I wish we lived closer (I'm in Norwich), and had something more than my nasty, cold old Land Rover to use as transportation, as I would happily take the lovely little thing in - my two other rescue cats would love her. The sad thing is that the RSPCA and most other charities are utterly snowed...

    Broken Tank Forced Relocation

Hrm, woke up this morning to find all 3 of my Amanno Shrimps dead. No idea why. Water levels are all fine - everything is testing as it always does. It's a shame..I've had them for ages :( Anyway...some plants off eBay came this morning and I'm really quite suprised, they're not bad at all...

    Water Quality

Hm, sounds like the water problems I used to have in an old house. I ended up doing water changes with a RO and Rain water mix. I know that's not possible for everyone (not everybody has access to collected rain water!), but it definitley kept the nitrates down - the only thing I had to...

    Water Quality

What treatement are you using on your tap water at the moment, while doing water changes? I have used Seachem's "Prime" for some time now, and it works wonderfully. It removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia, as well as eliminating the risk of ammonia. It also detoxifies nitrites and nitrates.

    Broken Tank Forced Relocation

I think we have about 400 Guppies in total, in various tanks. Personally, I really dislike them - but they're forever being dumped on us. The Ghost Knife will stay with me, no matter how big he gets. We have just bought a 6ft tank - so when he outgrows all of the other tanks he'll go in there...

What will shock you more is that currently, said 200 Guppies are in nowhere near a 100 gallon tank... They're in roughly a 20 gallon tank and I'm starting to dish them out between our other tanks (except the Oscar tank...). I have been speaking to a friend at a local Aquatics Centre...

    Self-Sustaining Tank

200 fish is a lot of fish, especially in a 300ltr tank - and given some of the varities we have in there (there isn't an albino shark though..that I know of!! and we don't have a common Plec - only 2 Ancistrus, 1 Golden Ancistrus and 2 Bristlenose) I am amazed that in it's nearly 2 year life...

    Self-Sustaining Tank

I'm going to post about my experience, although as already discussed at length above I wouldn't recommend it. My husband has never kept fish before he met me, but he very quickly caught "the bug" and we bought an ex-display Cleair 300l setup and Fluval external for him. I gave him guidance...

Myself and my husband collected a new 6 foot setup yesterday afternoon, and turned up to be greeted with a tank literally bubbling with the sheer volume of Guppies. Skeleton Fish - Anyone Keep Them?

To be honest, no I didn't. I just copy and pasted the first image I found, as I couldn't find any copyright information on the website. I'm impressed though, on all of the forums I've ever used or currently use, no one has questioned the copyright usage of images on the net. EDIT: In fact...

Skeleton Fish - Anyone Keep Them?

I'd go with Glass Catfish. We have over 100 of them in our tanks, all said and told. They're wonderful fish and I've always found them to be very hardy. They look superb when they shoal in a planted tank.

    A Couple Of My Tanks

Indeed. All of the plants seem to have overun the tank. The fish all love it - especially the more timid ones. And, I had an inkling when I was taking the photos yesterday - but didn't follow it up until this morning: I have TWO male Fighters in that tank. One living at either end. I had no...
