Myself and my husband collected a new 6 foot setup yesterday afternoon, and turned up to be greeted with a tank literally bubbling with the sheer volume of Guppies.

We caught 99% of them and brought them home, along with 3 very large Buenos Aires Tetras, one very old (and sadly now dead) Congo Tetra, a Silver Shark, some very old Lemon Tetras, 2 female and 1 male Cherry Barbs, and a very grumpy 6 inch Plec.

In total, there must be over 100 adult Guppies, and at least that again in babies.

I've never been a Guppy person, but to see so many of them is a wonderful sight!

Like I mentioned above, we had no idea we were bringing home SO many fish - so they've all been lumped into the quarantine tank along with my RTBS and my 6 Gouramis that I ended up with a couple of days ago.

I've just set up a new tank for the Guppies, and they'll move over to that when it's ready.

In your place, which I find I often am, I sell all of the adult guppies at a club auction. The end result is the vigorous fry are still in my tank and I have a bit of cash to use for fish food. With over 200 guppies in a 100 gallon tank, you are somewhat overstocked. I do understand that guppies and the related endlers can indeed survive with such a heavy stock level.

What will shock you more is that currently, said 200 Guppies are in nowhere near a 100 gallon tank... They're in roughly a 20 gallon tank and I'm starting to dish them out between our other tanks (except the Oscar tank...).

I have been speaking to a friend at a local Aquatics Centre and he has agreed to buy them off me per 100 when I've got enough that I would like to sell on.

Lovely Endlers by the way :) Very fond of them.

Maybe some Fishforums users near Norwich can take some off you. If that's what you want.

If you are trying to lower your guppy's you could try to seperate male from female, I had a problem where I was getting to overstocked with guppys so I gave my three males away to a friend. But it looks like you have more than three Males so, goodluck (by the way pinkspider, those are some nice guppys)

I'm quite shocked by how many we still have - I've managed to rehome over 100 so far, but still have 100s left.

A lady is coming to collect 20 later on this evening, but that won't even make a dent in the total.

I have seperated as many of the males from the females as I can - although many of the females came to us in a heavily pregnant state.

Hey for every home you can find is another 15-30 juvi guppys that you don't have to deal with, though good luck on finding the guppys homes.

When rehoming adult guppies, don't hesitate to include some free females with each group that you pass along. I sell a bag of guppies labeled as 10 fish and include a few extra females, bringing the count to 14 or 15 each time. It helps reduce the pressure on my own tanks and people think they have gotten a bargain.

i have loads of guppies and could always do with more but i'm always too late lol

wow that's a lot of fish per gallon.

Good luck with that. Even after you've seperated the males from the females they keep giving birth!! I seperated mine about 8 months ago and they are still giving me babies now, with no males in sight. I was told they can hold on to the eggs for 9 months before they decide to give birth.

A very old post that has probably been resolved by now. The original post is now 11 months old.

Where are you ripils_fishes? It is never too late. Near me, there is a fish auction in Peoria about 15 October so I will be there selling surplus guppies as usual. I will also be selling surplus goodeids as I often do. Right now I have a surplus of Ameca splendens and the ever fertile wild type endlers.
