Today i opened my fluval305 to put in more media and as i took the top part off i hear a small crack then a little plastic bit fell on floor, seem to be where the right hinge is as there a gap, also the dam thing wont shut now,it just pops open when i fill it,it has leaked before and now im gona bin it,why do they make these things out of very poor plastic that breaks too easy, luckly ive got other filters so no emergency, but not happy as hat it less than two months.

I would write to fluval and contact the place of purchase to see if it can be replaced/repaired. If not, rather than bin it sell the useable parts on. They are always handy, the powerhead, canister, shut off valve, taps, baskets etc.. at least you will make some money back!

where are you located? i have recenly bought a 2nd hand 305 and would be interested in spare parts

its a familiar story. though its, by no means, an everyday Fluval occurrence. it will surprises very few.

I've used fluval 305, U4 and 2+ and have never really had a problem. The 305 seal had failed when I first got it but it was used and I don't know how long for! I have also used all pond solution filter and rena's and have never had a problem with them either.

Fluvals do not last long, my fluval 4 lasted about 5 months, then it was working but the water flow was so so low so i just bought another, This one has lasted about a year now. my fluval 1 is about 3 years old and it still works fine,

Just contact the place of purchase or fluval.

Wat a joke i got it going again by putting a belt around and tighting right up,looks a joke but its working,

I've had similar problems with Fluval in the past, and like others I will only use Eheim now.

Glad you've come up with a solution of sorts to keep it working.

 I've had a 305 for nearly 3 years without a single problem. Opened/Cleaned (partially) every 2 weeks, runs for 24 hours a day, keeps perfect stats and all considering quite cheap........ must just be me ^_^

to get back to th OPs problem , i would advise that as its only 2 months old it is still uinder warranty , id be wanting replacement/refund . 1st port of call would be where it was bought , then after that if need be fluval themselves .

then go buy an eheim :p ( just kidding )

Just to temper things... the hinges connecting the top to the canister on my Eheim 2215 are garbage and the plastic has broken in that area, although it still works. Amazing that german engineering could not do better. Can't some bright person on this forum invent something better? :hyper:

as with most, it engineering to a price. and, as a 2017 owner, i'm stumped how you managed it. still, it lets us know, even the best have problems.

I would have thought german built stuff to be superier to itailian, ill defo be sticking to german as i got loads of juwel tanks and they are fantastic never a problem.
