    Top Fin Power Filter 10

You sure there is no small print that it applies to the next size up top fin filter. My top fin 60 has a nob at the top that can increase flowrate but my top fin 10 does not have that option. after going through my manual, it looks like topfin just use one manual for all there filters...

Make The Jump To A Full Size Puffer?!

Well a very tempting offer opened up for a 135 gallon complete setup ( decor, pumps, filters, heaters etc.) and it includes a very healthy fahaka puffer. From the video of the actual tank and puffer, it looks like a perfect setup. Anybody with any tips before I make the jump on a fahaka...

    100% Ro?

I'm currently using pretty close to 100 percent RO water. With 50 percent water change on a 90 gallon tank I add about 2 tblspoon of Seachem equilibrium and 4 teaspoon seachem alkaline buffer per water change. Usually brings up my GH/KH close to 4-5 DKH.

Lost 4 Blue Rams In Last 3 Months

Is it just the eyes that only go black ? Usually blue rams looses his color or darken up when they are stressed. Definitely check your water conditions and they are territorial so they will bully and fight each other if you don't have a big enough tank with borders established.

    Sick Tank!

Try to stay away from cleaning the filter on a newly setup tank.....you need time for the beneficial bacteria to establish in there. Looks like you used fish to cycle the tank, and with no water change and only meds you are going to get a few casualties.

    White Ring On Gourami

Looks like he just rubbed against something.... Nothing to really worry about unless it gets worse. If you don't have any plants, Cory,( fish that can't take any salt treatment). You could add some aquarium salt to help him heal quicker.

New Algae Army Deployed Into Discus Tank

I've seen it go for green and black stuff. What I like about them best at the moment is they go after fish poop and actually breaks it up, giving me a easier time when I do my gravel vac. For some reason, my gravel vac has a hard time picking up the real big poops from my discus.

    Discus Health Question

Yeah I have to agree with Kevin on this one as well. Sure the discus at the lfs might have survived alot ( bad water conditions, cheap food, etc.). But would you want a expensive fish that just went through all that or would you want a fish that was brought up properly with lots of care and...

    Is This Even Possible?

I think discus shouldn't be classified like any regular chiclids just for the plain fact that they are the hardest to keep, and do require specific water conditions. A juvi discus no matter where you get them from require lots of water changes, just because you get this juvi from a lfs...

New Algae Army Deployed Into Discus Tank

Well I've decided to get rid of all my pleco's in my discus tank for the amount of waste they produce and introduced a whole new algae crew. These guys are lean, mean, and filling some pretty big shoes that my pleco's had. Everyone of them survived my tough quarantine measures, and are now...

    Quick Question About Discus

I honestly don't know... the problem with using full out meds for parasite is that it might do more harm then good for a questionable fish! That's why I can't recommend using full out Medication for your situation. If you can find a comparable parasite guard in your market then I guess that...

    Discus Problem

I keep a temp of 84 degrees F , seems to be a good median to keeping the discus happy and my plants and cory etc. not stressed out. As for PH, always strive for a stable PH, hence check PH after a water change vs the PH before the water changes and note any changes. And No you shouldn't start...

    Quick Question About Discus

You can do a 1 hour quick parasite dip, I've done it as a preventative measure on all my new fish's and seem to work pretty good. Only thing I trust for our discus is using Seachem paraguard, instructions as follows: For 1 hour dips, use 3 mL per 4 L (1 gallon*). Dips may be extended if fish...

    Quick Question About Discus

I really wouldn't worry about him then, only time I worry about my discus is 1) loss of appetite 2) turned dark and stressed out 3) white poop 4) no signs of a bloated stomach or fin rot, white spot ( visual indication of any problems)

    Discus Problem

I'm not saying that nitrates is what killed your discus, but is something that should be looked at when keeping a crystal clean aquarium for these sensitive fishes. Actually why I say nitrate is important is because usually high nitrates are caused by decaying food, high bioloads, and dirty...

    Discus Problem

Could be alot of stuff that did him/her in. I'm not sure what your nitrates are, but I usually like to use it as my indicator for waterchanges on my Discus. Anything Over 5 on nitrates and I do a 50 percent water change, Also I like to use Purigen on my filtration just for the great job it...

Small Fish I Can Put With Discus

My vote is a shoal of cardinal tetra's. The brilliant blue and Red they display are just stunning, and they get so big and fat from all the food in the tank! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4g6TFsRzRQ My tank with cardinal tetra's and german rams!

    What Discus Would Compliment These

That's the same way I do it too... I like increasing in pairs too! I have my sights on getting a pair of Heckels but it won't happen till I setup a new wild tank. I'm running out of room!!! :)

    Prime

No problem.... I go through about 120 gallons of water a week in water changes for my discus tank ( I blame it on the home made beef heart mix that messes up the water) but thanks to your advice you gave me last year I have the confidence to do massive water changes without worry! :)

    Prime

A new product from seachem is out that is even more concentrated then Prime but in powder form.... It's called seachem SAFE and for example 1/8 tsp treats 25 gallons of water. I'm currently using it and Its saving me some good money compared to prime!

    Whats This?

Yeah , I also learned the lesson the hard way! When it comes to discus, the source is everything. It's always easier to start off with a good quality fish then to struggle with a unknown one.

    What Discus Would Compliment These

Usually it's safe to use the 1 adult discus to 10 gallon rule. So I would say 9 or 10. But with an increase on fish load, you might need to up the quantity of water changes depending on waste. With discus, the more you have the better! Since it helps with aggression and shyness issues. But...

Woot..just Picked Up My 2 Red Apples

Yup... April gets them from the source(Forrest). Quarantine should always be performed, I'm in no way advocating that quarantine should be skipped, just that on my case I know the source and my lfs did perform the quarantine for me.
