fungal/bacterial infection. You need to treat the tank, preferably with something like malachite and/or acriflavin (Myxazin).

ok ive got some myxazin and want to start treating immediately. the only concern i have is that im currently doing daily water changes. will this effect the dosage and frequency of administrating this medication?????

i have had the same thing caused by bullying have you got a spare tank i would move him asap and treat him seperatly

too late he died last night. im a bit annoyed, i got 4 poor quality discus from a local breeder, then i got 3 more from a better supplier after doing more research. im now down to one of the original 4 and the 3 i got later are doing brilliantly. could the original 4 have just been bred from bad stock and weaker immunity etc.

sorry to hear the bad news....

it could be one of many things including what you said about bad stock and weak immune systems but some discus just dont mix. google discus plague and it will explain about mixing discus from different places. its normally advised to buy all your discus in one place and at the same time to help prevent this issue but this can be expensive

at least you now know not to go back to that certain breeder again.

sorry to hear about that mate, i know the feeling went through the same thing a few years ago, not a nice experience

i just feel dissapointed in myself as i rushed in with my first batch. i bought my 1st 4 to cut my teeth on discus, gave them the proper care and still have bother with them. when i got them they were very poor quality but i didnt know this as they were young and i was inexperienced. after doing research i got three more which originated from chens discus and i couldnt be happier with them. they have grown nearly an inch since i got them and havent shown any signs of illness.

as i write this the last of the originals is currently looking really bad, gone dark and is struggling to maintain stability.

General rule for discus once they go black they never come back :S

Yeah , I also learned the lesson the hard way! When it comes to discus, the source is everything. It's always easier to start off with a good quality fish then to struggle with a unknown one.
