I have 4 discus in my tank now as 2 are currently breeding in their own tank (YAY!)

And after a rescape, i have loads more room for more discus! So what would go well with the ones i have? I dont want just a mix match.... although i realise i have started that haha

These are what i have. Sorry, but i STILL cant figure out the differences between the naming! I know my stuff for keeping them and getting every fish in my tank (discus, rams, cardinals!) to spawn, but naming discus is still a challenge as i have never worked out a logic to it!

I have golden leopard snake skin, albino yellow crystal and albino snake skin (the orange ones, two of which - the albino snake skin and one yellow crystal- have been moved can be seen in the photo). The leapard has really darkened down in my tank as she has got the typical black speckles all over.

I then got these two (Spotted Leopards). They too have darkened from the photo due to my set up. One has developed stress lines over her body now.

Brilliant Blue Turquoise, Red & Whites, Yellow Crystals, Red Melon, Penang Erruptions...

There are sooo many!! They are some of my favourites! :)

I have a suggestion. As lovely as your fish are, they are all line bred in captivity. Perhaps you should poke around the net and see what you can find re wild caught discus. You might find something you like.

Wild discus look best when kept with other discus. They also do better with wilds then with domestics. I think some blues are much needed. Love blue snakeskins. A blue a colbult. The classic Blue Turquois are always a must have.

I'd go with a couple more Turqs, then they'd all go together as some of your others have the turquoise in. :good: Where did you get the others from, a breeder or your lfs?

I got them from a breeder up here, they are top quality, so i couldnt say no!!

Some good suggestions there, thanks, but how many more similar sized ones (they are huge!) do yuo think i could add to this tank?

depends on the tank, whats the volume?

Its 360L (water in the tank, rather than calculated size which is about 390 i think). Previously with my decor i figured it was at capacity with 6 discus, 50 cardinals, 4 rams and my bottom feeders. But since removing a lot of the wood, there is a lot more room for swimming. I also have two good filters on the go

One more Discus and your at full capacity, around 50litres per Discus is a good rule of thumb. The Cardinals dont really make a difference with the tank volume as they calm the Discus.

Surely 50 litres per discus means she can have 2 more if she only has 4 at the moment? 3 if you dont include all the other inhabitants..

My apologies if I'm totally wrong, just my point of view :)

Ps, beautiful discus, I wish I could keep them myself, might start when I have more money, we have very soft, acidic water :):):)

Maybe he means i could put it up to 7 discus (thinking i still had 6 in). As 7*50L = 350L.... and he said the cardinals etc wouldnt make a difference.

I obviously dont want over crowding, and my pocket would hurt a lot, but i would have thought i could get a few more than that in! Wont be overstocking though.... i'll see how it looks and how they act as i add :)

Yeah thats what I thought,

'Previously with my decor i figured it was at capacity with 6 discus, 50 cardinals, 4 rams and my bottom feeders' - is that what made you say 1 ps3stevo?

Usually it's safe to use the 1 adult discus to 10 gallon rule. So I would say 9 or 10. But with an increase on fish load, you might need to up the quantity of water changes depending on waste. With discus, the more you have the better! Since it helps with aggression and shyness issues.
But for some reason your tank doesn't look as big as my 90 gallon yet if we do the calculations it is actually about the same. My tank Demensions are 48"X18"X24"
122cmX46cmX61cm

I think the perspective the photo was taken, and the fact my discus are pretty huge helps to make the tank look small... Though it's not :p

When I added 6, I was doing 30-50% Dailey water changes. It was hard after a full days work! If I add more, it'll be at 2 at a time to save me work and a painful bank account haha.

That's the same way I do it too... I like increasing in pairs too! I have my sights on getting a pair of Heckels but it won't happen till I setup a new wild tank. I'm running out of room!!! :)
