Well after pre-ordering my 2 red Discus and having in quarantine for about 3 weeks at my LFS, I finally went over today to pick them up!! They are doing good, and are already swimming with the pack! Looks like they are feeling at home already!! :hyper:
Discus are from Kenny Cheung and are from a Forrest shipment.

Also for some reason, one of them have a really shiny silver gills. Almost reflective :shout:

The silver color gills could be due to ammonia burn if that is way it will recover with good water. Or it could just be the color.

Judging from the photos, you didn't qt your new fish.
Did you get them all from the same supplier?

Most people don't qt fish, infact you will find 95% of fish keepers dont, i never have, not even with Marine, worst thing i ever got was white spot which was fixed with a bump in temperature.

Fish arrived about 3 weeks ago, my lfs gives me a preview. I prepaid and purchase the pair. She then puts them in quarantine for observations during the 3 weeks. I give her a call, and she gives me the thumbs up before I pick them up. With discus I have come to realise that the most important thing is that they come from a good reputable source. Forrest has a real good rep and so as Kenny cheung discus.

He got these fish from one of the best imported in the USA. Kenny knows his fish and would never sell sick fish. So this guy would be fine not doing the QT thing. But yes it is always best to QT. It helps get a fish adjusted you can make sure that fish is eating and strong enough to be with other fish. Yes many people don't QT there fish and yes ICH is the main thing you might catch. There'd are other parasites they can get. QT is a good idea.

Forrest is the breeder Kenny is the impoorter of Forrest fish to north America. April the chick in Canada imports right from Forrest right?

The fish are very nice.

Yup... April gets them from the source(Forrest). Quarantine should always be performed, I'm in no way advocating that quarantine should be skipped, just that on my case I know the source and my lfs did perform the quarantine for me.

I am not critisizing the quality of the fish or the integrity of the supplier.

But Discus are very sensitive to pathogens and bacteria. And it could be either way. Your existing stock could have them but build up an immunity but pass them on to the new fish. And vice versa.
It's more serious diseases than Ich.

I have known people to have their entire stocks wiped out by introducing one fish from a reliable source.

When I gave up Malawis, I was really keen on Discus. But the qt and set up was just too much for me at this stage.

I have to admit that despite having the facility to QT new fish, I don't. I'm careful about where I buy from but *touch wood* I've not had any problems - in fact the only time in recent history I've had any illness brought into the tank appears to have been from plants.

Wow, they're beautiful, FOTM nom lol.
