after a couple of years of using rena smart heaters i now have 2 dead 200w ones

im looking for a 300w heater and it seems rena dont do the 300w smart anymore.... and after the 200w ones overheating i am swayed with the fluval e300 heater.

does anyone use these at all? and if so what are they like?

ive read reviews saying that unless they are right in the flow of the filter they under perform and also do better when vertical. if this is true then maybe they are not the heater for me.

and suggestions on other 300w heaters?

I have the E50 and I think it is great, I have a smart heater in another tank, and I like parts of both. For example I like the display on the E heater is it shows colours and a digital readout, compared to the smarts light.
But I also like the way the smart acts as a strainer on the external filters.

Yes make sure the E heater in right in the flow of the filter or it will complain.
Thinking about it I don't actually prefer a heater they are both great heaters, So its what ever you want.

Have you considered a external heater?

Ps Just relised this post hasn't acctually helped alot.

I had a Fluval 100e and it wasn't very good. It always claimed to be 2 degrees under temp, and it was.

I'm a big Hydor fan at the moment, their heaters are very good. Especially this one

yeah these are really good ive got 1 of the hydors and ive got an e300 which is pretty good i found it works best when not fixed in a straight up position but at a 45 degree angle other than it saying low flow alot it works quite well though i must say that after getting the hydor i wont buy another internal heater.

unfortunatly due to using FX5 filters i cant have external heaters as the filter pipes are too wide otherwise i would be straight onto them.....

unless there is a model with a wider pipe adapter?

i haven't found an inline heater that works with an FX5 yet.. but i'm still looking. i do have a Fluval E300w heater in my 180. i also keep a digital thermometer on the tank just to verify that it's correct. it has always been within .5 degrees of the exact temp, no problems at all. but in the winter (because i have no heat in the house) i have to add another heater to suppliment. if i was able to keep the temp in my house over 70 degrees all the time the fluval would most definitely be enough.

in fact, since the cooler weather is just around the corner.. i'm going to be buying another one or two of the fluval heaters for the 210. i've been using the older model stealth heaters in them, but they are slowly dying one at a time over the last year or so and the new stealth heaters have an issue with exploding randomly, so i won't be going back to those.

I have also had the Hydor internals and they are also spot on. You can angle them to whatever you want. They can be placed upside down if needed!

ive been reading good reports on the visi-therm heaters has anyone got these?

i just dont like the idea of having glass heaters in the tank again after running the renas....

no, i stay far away from glass heaters.. i don't care if they say "shatter proof" on them, it's a lie.

i've used titanium heaters with great success, and now i'm liking the fluval heaters quite a bit. let me see if i can find the brand of titanium heaters that i was using. i still have some that work, but they are all too small for the tanks i'm running so they are in boxes of spare parts waiting for whenever i decide to start another tank.. lol.

http://www.marinedepot.com/ViaAqua_VA_Titanium_Aquarium_Heater_Titanium_Heaters-ViaAqua-VA73336-FIHTTH-vi.html this is not where i bought mine, and it looks like they've updated the controllers since the last time i purchased one. but the price is right and they work. i've had them quit working but i've NEVER had one short out and boil a tank like some of the glass heaters i've had.
