So today, I purchased 9 female bettas for my 64L tank. I brought them home and acclimatised them in the slowest manner I have ever done with any fish, a grand total of probably 1 hour 30. My main concern right now is that almost all of them, minus 2 or 3, are showing constant stress stripes...

I've used both of those tanks and currently have 3 of the smaller ones and 1 one of the larger ones. I use the 3 small as my breeding tanks, where I store 1 female and then put one male with her. I used the larger one for storing the extra females.

As a generalisation, the bigger the fish, the bigger the brain, the more personality that fish has. Saying that however, my flame red betta is the most personable fish I've ever owned.

Black growing tissue is usually necrosis, at least it is in humans. The cause I'm afraid, is beyond me, but I would start personally considering his quality of life at this point.

Ammonia and NitrIte should always be 0 in a mature tank, did you cycle your tank before hand? If he's a mail order fish, I would expect the journey to be incredibly stressful anyway, which can bring on whitespot all by itself. Any tank mates?

Size plays a ver small role, it depends on how they've been fed, looked after and over all age. Tiger endlers are created by breeding with a snakeskin guppy, but are called tiger endlers. The third one still looks like a hybrid as I have a small hybrid and he looks almost identical to that...

I would have to say no I'm afraid. The first 2 are tiger endlers, a hybrid with guppies already. The last one is indeed an endler, but with very washed out colour, which leads me again to think it's a hybrid.

Tank size? If you're in the UK, PFK recently had an article all on this. New plec species to the fray, each with prices etc. Some are slightly older, like the flash plec and the magnum, but might still give you some ideas.

The gibbs can reach 50cm long, but the average is more in the 30cm region. The min they get to is about 20cm. Edit: 500L would be smashing.

As already said, each betta is different and there's no real rules. I do however always advise these "rules" to start off with: - Nothing colourful - Nothing with long fins - Nothing that likes to eat long fins. If you go by those, you should be perfectly fine. You can then experiment after...

The only reason I say he's washed out is simply because there's a slightly whiter patch on him. If he's been like it for 2 weeks now, then that's just his colour, nothing to worry about. Sorry, didn't mean to scare you.

First instinct is to say just a common plec if there was no label. Looking at the colour pattern however, I'm inclined to go with perhaps a gibbiceps. He does seem slightly washed out though, perhaps let him settle in a bit more and then post another picture, just for reference purposes.

Having used both, Argos is definately my favourite. It's lighter, softer and has a richer sandy colour. Although remember, due to it been so soft and fine, it can easily compact and cause anaerobic bacteria. I found B&Q sand to be darker and slightly more gritty looking.

Hi there, Firstly, just to echo, you've been given awful advice, they are normally quite easy to sex. Secondly, you have variatus platies, or atleast forms of (just in case you were wondering) Thirdly, from what I can see in the pictures, they look all male.
