    Anabantoid Compatability

Hi everyone, I'm planning on converting my rio 180 to a South Asian theme tank. I have a few questions on stocking though that I was hoping you could help me with - my first time keeping these sort of fish, quite a change from what I used to have :P So far the stocking is just a shoal of...

    Exctinction

Grrrrr, so you have some sort of 'faith' to believe in dragons? Not having a go - sorry if it appears that way when written in text - but that's why I prefer science over religion/beliefs. Science changes its views based on evidence, its pure and has no agenda or motive. Religion/beliefs are...

    Questions Need Awnswering

Depends on the size of the fish in question. An adult angel will eat young fish, and may well have a go at adult khuli loach.

    Holiday 'fish Monitoring'

A holiday is for relaxing not fretting over your fish tank :P.

    Exctinction

Like I said before I would like to see the evidence. We know pterosaur existed due to fossil remains, yet as far as I'm aware there is no real evidence of fire breathing, gigantic, flying dragons(or anything similar) in the middle ages.

    Pick Me An Cichlid

Honduran red point maybe - but not a breeding pair, I feel they would be too boisterous. As suggested before apisto's or rams would suit the tank well.

    Corydora Or Loaches?

Two different groups of fish there, whatever you choose I'm sure there will be one species that would suit your tank. Am I right in thinking that the other inhabitants of the tank are 2 keyholes and 2 rams? In that case you might want to stick to a SA theme and get cory's - more associated...

    Good Oscar Websites

Cichlid-forum has some short articles on oscars that may entertain you for 10 minutes or so. If you have access to JSTOR or other journal archives there's a number of articles I used to read while bored in between lectures/seminars at uni - just search oscar, Astronotus, ocellatus, cichlid etc.

    Vitamins

I personally wouldn't bother, a staple of a quality flake/pellet topped off with treats/greens should provide all the nutrients/vitamins your fish need.

    Oscar With Convicts?

You don't actually state the size of your tank, so it may or not work given the size. An oscar and a common plec are both very messy fish, so if you intend to add 2 convicts I would say a tank of AT LEAST 120 gallons would be needed. There might also be aggression issues with the oscar...

    Blue Dragon Goby

Thats the price you should have to pay for not researching the fish before purchase. Sorry if that sounds like criticism but you have a duty of care.

    Blue Dragon Goby

They are brackish, just because your LFS didn't have it in brackish doesn't make it a freshwater fish. Like most brackish fish they can tolerate freshwater, but do much better in brackish. If kept in freshwater they will most likely not live to their full potential.

    Mekong Puffer (Tetraodon Suvattii)

Just seen my links don't work, but if you just type 'Pufferpedia' into google you'll find the site and it has a ton of info on puffers.

    What Tank

Have you thought about custom made tanks? That way you can get the specs you want. Also I would look at second hand tanks if you haven't already thought aabout it. Especially with larger tanks there are some great bargins as there's a limited market for them.

    Mekong Puffer (Tetraodon Suvattii)

I think any tankmates would be out of the question, even armoured catfish. I've seen videos of these guys chop fish clean in half, bones and all. A 3ft tank would be ample I believe, they are 'lurker' puffers meaning they spend most of their time burried/hidden waiting for their pray to come...

Anybody Painted Their Background? Advice Needed

Ive painted the back and sides of my main tank. I cant remember what kind of paint it was, though it is matt. I remember it was a good quality thick paint that I slapped on with a wide brush, though I don't see why a roller wouldn't work.

How Large Would My Tank Have To Be?

Would have to disagree with this :P, having seen an absolute beast of a male texas cichlid, I would say he could hold his own against a pair of cons. Don't get me wrong cons are tough little fish, but texans are tough big fish. With regards to the tank size, as already stated you would either...

    Rainbow Cichlids

When you say the female 'had the babies' do you mean she laid her eggs but they got eaten/destroyed/hatched and died...or that she gave birth to them? The way you put it makes it seem she gave birth to them, but rainbow cichlids lay eggs (you probably know this but I am just checking). I would...

    Discus Tank Mates

Theres different schools of thought regarding angels and discus in the same tank. If you are considering it then I would read up on it and make your own decision. P. altum are never found with discus, and P. leopoldi only with Heckels, so something to consider if your thinking of a 'true biotope'.

    Siamese Tiger Fish...

It wouldn't be a 'real' Siamese tiger fish you saw (D. Pulcher), but an indonesian tiger fish (D. microlepis). I had one, great fish, always swam to the front of the tank begging for food. Huge mouth so choose tank mates carefully. If you're considering one, I'd do a bit more research then...

    South/central American Top Dwelling Fish?

They may be excellent jumpers, but I think even the Atlantic Ocean is a bit too much for them  Swordtails are surface dwellers from Central America (as are guppies)

Cryptoheros Cutteri - What To Feed?

Agreed, a good diet is a quality pellet or flake for when they are younger. Variety in the form of frozen/live foods occasionally and don't forget the greens.

    Tank Idea?

I would say a rio 180 is large enough for a breeding pair of JD's. Though I would not have tankmates. Breeding cichlids would make their life hell.

Using Children Paddling Pool As A Fish "tank"...

I believe it is more common practice in the states than it is over here (thinking of 'Rubbermaid' tubs) Obviously it would have to be indoors, in a well insulated place in order to even think of having one - even then as katch said I still think the heating bills would be through the roof -...

    New Discus Pictures + Vid

I wasn't a fan until a year or so ago. Always previously preferred more aggressive NW cichlids such as oscars, GT's, jags, festae etc. I've heard rummy nose shoal better than cardinals, but I'm edging towards cardinals as I like their colour better.

No problem with regards to the post. I have got a few portions left of New Life Spectrum food I will try and get them to eat, then shift to Tetra prima (had that before and know how good it is). The cory's I am planning on getting are Sterbai from a local breeder - once discus have settled...

    New Discus Pictures + Vid

Hi all, On Thursday I took the plunge and completely changed my set up to discus. I traded in my polleni, juvi argentea and a BN plec for 6 discus. The tank is still in a bit of a state after having to catch the previous occupants and I thought I would let the discus settle a bit before...
