On the knowledge that my Rio 180 (180L) is probs too small for a breeding pair of JD's, im thinking of other ideas. How does this sound?

4 - 5 Acara (not sure whether to get all males of differnet colours, or maybe 2m+3f?)
8 - 10 shoaling fish (something like tetra)
3 BN Plecos

My original idea would be to have a breeding pair of cichlids with the shoal + BN's but i cant find ones that get to max 8" or 9" as im guessing that would be about right for my 180

Either way, my tank is full at the mo. this is just a pipe dream for years to come

I would go for the following:
1 pair Aequidens pulcher (blue acara) as they can get up to 20cm/8 inches, although usually slightly smaller
10 Hyphessobrycon colombianus (red-fin tetra)
1m 2f bristlenoses

I would say a rio 180 is large enough for a breeding pair of JD's.

Though I would not have tankmates. Breeding cichlids would make their life hell.
