Most filters are designed to work on suction, and you would have to be very careful adding an airline to them

after a couple issues with heaters, I just got in the habit of touching/feeling my tanks and canister filters as I walk buy them... after a few days, you can notice even small changes in temp or vibration indicating a potential problem...

Im not aware of any aquatic turtles regularly available in the hobby that would be suitable for a 20 gallon aquarium for any period of time. When they are babies maybe, but plan on a tank 5-10 times that size in less than a year.

I believe in saltwater you are sealing with a different form of bacterias.... but as I still havent finished filling my saltwater tank to even start it... I am not the best person to ask.

I find plexi to last longer but it is much easier to scratch them up.

LOL... it occurs to me that the black shark currently in with my Mnuba Cichlids would now be at least 11 years old. I bought him about the same time I bought the knife, plecos and the gouramis. Not sure how I forgot about him.

Had a clown knife, 2 giant gouramis, and 2 plecos for just about 10 years. All died within 6 months of each other

Theres 2 commen plecos, and 2 albino chocloate plecos in my mnuba tank, and unless one starts scavenging a little to close to someones cave of the day, I really haven't seen any issues.. They are healthy, and growing like well... plecos. of course they also have 50 other fish looking to steal...

I've never had any luck doing that on all but the smallest of tanks. If you really want to fix that one, I would cut the bottom pane off and replace it. Thats not a beginners project IMO. And it does need to be glass, silicone and plexi don't work very well.

if they are 7" w/o the tail, I would suspect that they haven't been stunted too much, and most commen Plecos tend to be pretty hardy fish IMO. I think they will be happy messing up your tanks for years to come..

I've been using them for years (T-12 shop lights and cheap fixtures), and never had a problem. One thing that is worth getting for them is a clear plastic sleeve, with end caps, so that if anything does break, nothing gets in to your tank. Also make sure you run everything through a GFI

I've had the acrylic tank in my living room for over 10 years now... scratched yes... but no yellowing, and no issues. I would assume acrylic would outlast a glass tank by generations, assuming proper care was taken.
