we all know that BN plecs can live with mbuna but i was just looking at my BN and comparing him with the mbuna and i thought, you really look horrible next to those bright colours!!

so this leads me onto my question since i am planing on another plec in my mbuna tank it got me thinking what can actually live with mbuna besides BN's? im sure ppl on here keep different species and i'd love to hear how you got on with them so hopefully i can get some good ideas :D :good:

I thought of this too, so I phoned my LFS, they said maybe an L001 plec would be ok in there as well. I might try that too. :good:

i was thinking more colourful and a bit smaller than a foot long

i dont really want to rearrange all the rocks to make a hiding place for a 1 foot long plec!

though having said that i would rearrange for the right plec :good:

were certainly on the right track here :D

yeah they do get a bit ig for most aquariums, I think the main problem is that most plecs are from south america so the water conditions are totally different. I think that the bn's and L001's are the two of the hardier plecs to tolerate it.

could be wrong though, I hope I am lol, cause I want another pleco lol.

i know bn's and commons can take it but the problem is there botha bit bland IMO

in truth i want sumthing to match the mbuna which aint easy

tell me about it, lol, well if you do let me know...... :good: also common plecs move all the sand everywhere you might as well by a jcb and stick it in the tank. lol

Why not see if you can get your hands on an albino bn, the orange color would fit right in with the mbuna.

albino might be the next option, just thought for sure that some people on here would of kept other species with them

I wouldn't keep any of the more unusual (and expensive) plecs with Mbuna - just not worth the risk.

well ppl mite say that im a silly person buuuuut! i have 3 BN's all female! one fat royal L190 plec and a snowball plec cant remember L number but i no they all eat very different foods i try to feed at opposite ends of tanks, but all bin in since end of january and not 1 problem so far!

i know what people are saying about the risks but there are plecs who can surley hold there own against mbuna half of them are armour plated for god sake

typhoon i'd like to hear more about how your plecs get on and maybe see a pic or 2 i like the idea of a snowball if it can be done :good:

Plecs may be armour plated, but mbuna can be mean little SOB's when they feel like it.

this is true

im new to mbuna so i suppose i'll learn one way or another

Plecs are indeed armour plated but can die just as easily from stress as any other fish and this is the problem - not the physical abuse, although this can be considerable.

Theres 2 commen plecos, and 2 albino chocloate plecos in my mnuba tank, and unless one starts scavenging a little to close to someones cave of the day, I really haven't seen any issues.. They are healthy, and growing like well... plecos.

of course they also have 50 other fish looking to steal the cave as well, so it might be that plecos are just a little to far down the totem pole to worry about most days.

and before I catch h*ll... yes I know how big plecos get, and this is a 300 gallon tank, with a bigger one coming sometime this fall/winter.
