Discus Has Layed Eggs, What To Do Next

I take it you should transfer the parents too, as I believe the fry will feed from the mucus from the mothers gills for the first week or so. By the way the eggs have now hatched, so i am not sure if I should transfer or not now

Discus Has Layed Eggs, What To Do Next

I have been noticing two of my discus acting very aggressive to the rest of the tank mates for the last few days. When I looked closer I noticed what appears to be eggs attached to the side of a divers helmet (ornament). Is it best to try and move the mating pair and the helmet, or will they...

    Angelfish & Other Cichlids

If you keep one angel on its own, they are much more peaceful. As with most cichlids they can be agressive when breeding. I don't see any problems with that set up

    Jack Dempsey?

I believe Jack Dempseys are a Central American Cichlid, and there would be more advice on the New world forum. I do know they are fairly aggresive and are best kept with other similar Cichlids such as Convicts, Firemouths or Parrots

    Question Regarding Swapping Tanks

    Just A Quick Question

To cycle the tank, you have to have a source of ammonia, either from fish waste or rotting food. You could feed more or add a couple more fish, preferably hardy fish. Feeder guppies are often good for cycling tanks

    Jewel Filter

I just had problems with mine, It could not cope. Nitrite and ammonia were constantly rising until I added the external filter

    Just A Quick Question

How big is the tank. 2 guppies in a large tank will not produce a great deal of ammonia, and it may need a bit more to kick start the cycle

    Jewel Filter

I have a juwel, and I keep discus. I found the Juwel filter was not good enough for discus, so I added a Fluval external, the two working together do a great job. However I would not recommend a Juwel if you plan on keeping any Cichlids

    Nitrate In My Tap Water!

You should be ok with that reading, adding plants is a good way of bringing Nitrates down

    Kh Too High.. ?

I would not let the Kh bother you, unless you intend keeping discus who require low Kh. Amonia and nitrite are the most important when first cycling a tank
