I don't expect many to survive, and if they do, I hope to get a new tank at some point to keep newer fish.

I used to have 4 in the same community tank, and all lived well together. I guess it depends on the kind you keep.

Usually happens with me. Upon stirring the gravel, the water goes murky for about 2 hours. If the filters working fine it'll sort it out, and the rest will settle. Don't worry, quite normal.

I've kept Swordtails before and had no problems. Also kept Gouramis which are larger in size, perhaps slightly shorter, and also did very well in this tank. Not degrading what you're saying, merely throwing in past experiences to the mix.

I'm not overly sure of the gallons, but 11 would seem about right. I'd prefer livebearers to egg layers.

Red Tail Black Shark's are known for being territorial, so new fish won't know what's their territory or not. They'll learn in time where not to go. Is he doing much damage to the fish, or is it just chasing?

Asked my Dad whether to put some more meds in last night, and he was wary because of hoping not to overdose, and seeing as there were no signs of fungus, it wasn't worth the risk. Fish are fine this morning, all swimming around and fed well.

Is it just a hole where the eye should be, or is it covered? If it's a hole, I doubt he was born with it, if it is covered over, then it could be natural.

Probably be best to return it, and let the shop keeper know of the problem so he can check the tank he keeps the swordtails in for any problems. Also, if it is carrying an infection, you don't want any other fish catching it.

Make sure you don't go with too big a tank, seeing as it's your first, it's better to start small and get bigger as you gain more knowledge. Remember that when buying all the equipment, not to get any fish until your tank is ready and fully cycled. No need to rush into getting the fish in, as...

I haven't got a clue how to do that with my heater, hopefully my Dad will have an idea. How far should it be turned down? Also, should some more of the med be added tonight, to try and keep things down? Fish are much perkier now, barbs as healthy as ever and the silver ones back to normal.

Gave it last night. The fish fed last night, which was encouraging, but the fungus doesn't look any better (or worse). Not sure how many times you're supposed to give this med.
