I'm looking for a US alternative to Practical Fishkeeping. PFK is a great website but I would like to find one similar but stories/advertisements are more tailored to US residents.
I've read about plenty of people using the ADA AS, EC, or laterite for part of their substrate, but have seen very few topics on using a sand/top soil mix. I'm curious why more people don't try this.
They do reproduce very quickly. They just about overran my tank until I picked up a pair of yoyos. Now I don't think I have any. :( Don't remember the last time I saw one.
As the topic says: I want to take out the gravel in my tank and put in a sand bottom but I don't want to take the tank down. If I have to I will, its just a big hassle as I only have two tanks at home of which one is 5 US gallons( won't hold my pleco ).
If anyone knows, let me know too. I've been trying to get another tank for about 6 months. But to be fair, we were about to buy a house when I was trying to buy it ( missed a really sweet deal on aquabid because of it :-( ).
I need some help/suggestions with my betta. Right now he(Julian) is staying at the bottom of the tank and is being super lazy. He is eating poorly also. I came in from work and he had himself lodged between the wall of his tank and a betta bulb; I really thought he was dead. I knocked on the...
Just curious what eveyone is feeding their bettas; whether it be live, frozen, freeze-dried, synthestic (flakes and such).
Right now I'm feeding my male CT pellets but would like to add more diversity to his diet.
I really like Zale.
I wonder if petco would allow people to "rescue" bettas and give them back for sell? I don't see why they wouldn't...if a betta dies they get no $$ from it.
LoL@bettabum's sig...that picture is great. "SuperBettaRescueForce"
Sorry for bumping an old thread, just wanted to show an update of the betta bulb so people can see how big they get. Three of the blades are approaching 12" maybe longer, I've not measured them.
And its still growing!! :hyper:
I have one of the betta bulbs in my bowl ( hasn't sprouted ) but the bulbs I put in my 29 gal have. They look like a tall grass atm, not sure what the end result will be.
Here are pictures of mine.
Here is a pic of my betta. Img quality sucks because I'm still trying to get used to taking the pictures, little blurry. I'll try and get some better ones.

Has anyone had any issues with keeping an Opaline Gourami with a Blue Ram? I just got my blue ram today and my gourami has been all over him since I've put him in. I tried moving some of the structure around to break territory bonds but opaline keep harassing the ram. My ram has already...
