    Bulkheads For 1/2"id Hose?

Nope, I'm in the USA. I appreciate the links and info though. That should be enough to help me find my way through this part of the project! Two more questions; 1: why do some bulkheads have 2 gaskets while others only have one? 2: If I'm using threaded pipe, do I just use teflon tape to seal...

    Bulkheads For 1/2"id Hose?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... I have a CNC router to do all of the cutting for me, free 3/8" cell cast acrylic, and AutoCAD. :D I'm trying to get all of the supplies and plan the entire thing before I make the first cut. I don't usually plan things this far in advance; I usually start a...

    Bulkheads For 1/2"id Hose?

By "closed loop" do you mean up over the back of the tank? I can do that, but I'm trying to hide as much of the "works" as possible. I don't think the frogs could climb the hoses, but a false back covering everything would solve both issues. When it's all said and done, the tank will probably...

    Bulkheads For 1/2"id Hose?

I'm building a 30gal. acrylic tank for amphibians, and I'm planning on using an external filter (Eheim 2213) to keep the water nice and clean. I'd like to run all of the plumbing up through the bottom of the tank, but I have no idea what size bulkhead I need to order. Can anyone help? Also...

    Eheim Inline Tap Connectors

I am going to add another couple of taps in line so that I don't have to mess with adjustments every time I remove my filter. My 2213 is going to filter a 30gal amphibian tank, and there's only 10 or so gallons of water. If i don't get mine set correctly (the return will power a waterfall and...

    Eheim Inline Tap Connectors

I asked the customer support center a similar question. I was concerned that seriously reducing the flow would cause damage. Here's the response I received:

Woooo Hoooo Got My Eheim Classic Today

I've got about 6" of hose between the can and the inbound tap, probably only 3-4" on the outbountd side. I don't think it really matters, you just don't want to haul out 4' of tube every time you pull the canister for cleaning.

    Reducing Eheim 2213 Flow Rates

Mine has the taps as well, but I'm leaving those for connection only. The split return lines need to have seperate controls so I don't get a geyser instead of a waterfall :D

    Reducing Eheim 2213 Flow Rates

I think I already know the answer to this, but I just wated to check. I'd like to use an Eheim 2213 in a new tank I'm making for my frogs. The tank dims are only 18"x24", with about 7" of water (24" overall height). The return flow will be split into 2 lines; one for a waterfall and one...

Need help, food for baby FBTs?

Thanks for the response. Of course, not 2 minutes after I posted I found a link to a frog & toad site, http://talkto.thefrog.org/ with tons of information. Now I just have to track down some fruit flies... JayM

Need help, food for baby FBTs?

I have at least 6 tiny FBT's hopping around (with more developing each day), but I have no idea what to feed them! The pet store suggested a couple of things; little pellets and tiny freeze dried shrimp. The baby toads don't seem to be interested though, and I'm sure they're getting hungry...

    Your Worst Fish Story.

About a week after I put in my Eheim, I noticed my ph getting low so I added a bit of buffer, planning to add a little bit each day for the next 2 weeks or so. More buffer the next day. 3rd day, all 7 of my neons were missing. I assumed I had changed the ph too much at once and killed them...

Do you use a breeding net or not?

Are you sure about that? I thought the same thing till I was cleaning my Eheim a couple of weeks ago. After I'd emptied out all of the media I was about to wash the remaining stuff from the bottom of the cannister when I noticed something moving about. Turns out it's a Platy fry! Well, where...

    Adding clown loaches

After looking around quite a bit, I've spotted a few other loach varieties that I'd like to add. Will my current clown be as happy with other members of the loach family, or do I still need to add clowns (plus another breed or two...)? Are there any other loaches that get along with clowns...

Moonlight, well, longer than 30 minutes

Do you have any pics of the installation? I'm working on one right now, and I'd like to see what you've done. My initial solution is a temporary one; I'm going to build a hood sometime down the road for some t-5's with the moonlighting integrated. Right now I'm using some (plastic) electrical...

    Clown Loaches

In my neighborhood (Atlanta Ga) they usually run from $7-10 at Petsmart & Petco, and from $10-13 at the "better" fish & aquarium stores. Once in a while Petsmart will have them for around $5.

    Adding clown loaches

SHHHHHH! You're spoiling my reasons for getting a larger tank  As much as I would like to keep it and get a larger tank, there's no telling what's going to happen 2-3 years down the road. At least I'm armed with the knowledge; we'll just have to wait and see what the future brings...

    Adding clown loaches

Yeah, I know. If they get too big for the tank, I'll have to sell them off. I've got a couple of quality fish stores (ie: not petsmart, walmart, etc.) that will sell them or direct me to someone that would want them. Or, maybe I'll just have to move up to a 125 gallon tank

    Adding clown loaches

Actually, I have no idea why they died, but I don't think it was ich. When first introduced into the tank they were all well and good, but they hid most of the time. After about 2 months one of them just vanished. No body, nothing. Just gone. The next one disappeared a few months after...

Thanks. That's good, I was worried that there might be some serious hostility / territory issues if I just dropped them in.

    Adding clown loaches

I've got a 55usg tank with a number of community fish (platies, guppies, neons, one gourami and some harlequins). Also in the tank is one clown loach that I've had for the last 2 years. I started with 3, but the other 2 died a couple of months after we got them. How will the existing loach...

    U/G filters

So tonight I was cleaning out my tank stand, and I noticed something I'd never seen before. The bottom of my tank! It's a 55g that's been running for about 3 years with an over-the-back filter and an undergravel filter. The UGF covers the entire tank, but only half of it is under power with a...

    How do pythons work

I've started using a spring clamp and a couple of zip ties to keep the hose / tube secured in the tank. After I had the hose connection come apart due to pressure (I had the valve near the tube closed when I switched it from vacuum to fill), I started seeking alternate methods. In addition to...

K Finally will be starting my Moon light effect

That site is http://thelebos.com/ I just ordered led's & other stuff to do my own moonlight. Looks like a one-stop shop for parts or an assembled unit. Sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but would simulating sunrise / set using 4-5 fl tubes and timers actually be beneficial to the fish?

Ehiem 2213: Need some setup help!

Ouch! That hurts my feelings... The entire point of getting this thing running was to replace my noisy over-the-back filter. How much more filtration will I need? I'm also using a powerhead / undergravel setup on 1/2 of the tank to keep the large debris at the bottom. Side note, I replaced...

Python No Spill Clean And Fill

I bought a cheap underwater digital thermometer when I got the python, makes it pretty easy to get the temps within a degree or two of the tank water. I'm sure that many people can get it close enough by checking temps with their fingers, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that.

    any mathmaticians?

A quick model in Solidworks (an engineering program I use at work) gives me all the volume calculations I want. Are those dimensions inside or outside the glass? Either way, the volume runs from 7.03 cubic feet to 7.47 cubic feet, which converts to 52.6 us liquid gallons (43.78 UK gallons, or...

Ehiem 2213: Need some setup help!

freddyk, What is the aquaclear you mentioned? I was also thinking of creating and installing an inline prefilter. Probably just a 6" long section of 2"-3" diameter PVC with coarse filter material (fiber, filter pad, or something similar), shut-off valves, and easy to remove end caps / hose...

Ehiem 2213: Need some setup help!

Wow, that was fast! Thanks for the info! A couple more quick ones for you; How far should the intake be above the surface of the gravel (tank bottom) Is the spray bar supposed to be mounted horizontally or vertically? Above or below the water surface? Thank you so much for your replies! I...

Ehiem 2213: Need some setup help!

Hello everyone, I've got an Ehiem 2213 that's been in storage for at least 5-6 years. I'll be checking all of the seals & gaskets this weekend, and plugging it in for a test run. Before I get to that, I have a couple of questions. 1) Can I rinse / clean the existing ceramic filter media...

Python Clean & Fill Water Changers

I bought a python a few months ago, So far it seems to work pretty well. I bought a digital temp gauge to go with it; I check the tank temp before I begin, use cold water to do all of the siphoning, and then adjust the temp to within a few tenths of a degree to do the fill. It can take a...
