That's pretty cool! I like watching my fish in the dark. Lot of interesting behaviour to be seen -- especially the bottom dwellers.

I'd like to have a total lighting system where the light came on gradually in the morning (like sunrise) and then dimmed in the evening and end up with the moon light.

One of these days....

somebody posted a website here with a moonlight system that imitates the moon's cycle.

as for having the sunrise, sundawn effect, you wouldn't be able to do it with fluorescent tubes as most of them don't handle dimmers.

You could, however, buy like 4 or 5 different tubes with different K ratings and have them turn on and off as the day progresses.

That site is http://thelebos.com/
I just ordered led's & other stuff to do my own moonlight. Looks like a one-stop shop for parts or an assembled unit.

Sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but would simulating sunrise / set using 4-5 fl tubes and timers actually be beneficial to the fish?

i just have 3 tubes on my big tank and get a pretty good effect.

in the morning my blue tubes comes on for about an hour or so then my original tropical which is still quite dull then for about 6 gours aorund mid day a marine white tube comes on then same as the morning.

you can get flourescent dimmers but there expensive and not really worth it consideirng the fish won't thank you for it.

unless your room is pitch black without lights they get a sunrise effect from the sun light anyway.

That sounds good. I'm not so much looking to replicate a sunrise or sunset -- but I like the idea of the light coming on gradually in the AM and then reversing at night. My congo tetras freak when the light comes on and then again when it shuts off at night. MOre so when the light is shut off. Poor little guys, sometimes they swim right into the glass.
