Adding clown loaches

SHHHHHH! You're spoiling my reasons for getting a larger tank

As much as I would like to keep it and get a larger tank, there's no telling what's going to happen 2-3 years down the road. At least I'm armed with the knowledge; we'll just have to wait and see what the future brings. Right now it's only 3-1/2" long, so I have a while to wait before making any decisions.

:unsure:Wheres loachlover! Clown loaches are knowen to to grow slowly. Most reaching 8 inches. If you have one bigger post a picture.

what is posting a picture gonna prove? look man you just won't accep the matter that im right becasue im a newbie huh? well im a big member of aquarium mags so i wouldn't even go there. a 55g aquarium is way too small for a fully grown clown loach period.... they are normally kept in ponds and in 125g aquariums and up. i don't belive that you ever seen a really huge one right?

oooh, flexing our fishkeeping muscles now, are we?

The clown loach is one of the slowest growing fish in the world. In the wild, they get to about a foot in length, but in the home aquarium, they almost never reach that length. 8-10" is far more common, but it's gonna take some years to get to that size.

In ponds? , that's a first.

I think the minimum tank you would need is 75g, for long term. But i suppose you might get away with keeping 2-4 inchers in a 55g for quite a while, maybe 3-4, but make sure you have the large tank you will eventually need.

hmmm I wanted loach lover to come because he knows a thing or 2 about clown loaches. Phantom Theif did that tho.... I have seen big clowns but they were wild caught. Clown loaches fully growen can live in a 75 gallon..

Sorry, I'll shut up ;) :p

I just got 2 clown loaches that came with a secondhand 55 gallon tank my mom bought. The guy had them for about 2 years and they are around 5 inches in length each and quite thick bodied. :p I assume they will grow faster in the 120 gallon? The tank they were in was full of tiger barbs and black skirts and salt! They look 100% healthier in my tank.

So I assumed the guy got his loaches at around 1.5-2 inches and in 2 years they only grea 3 inches or so. They are quite slow growers.

You can keep three clowns in a 55 gallon for at least a few years. They'll only get around 8 inches in a home aquarium (although if it's massive enough, you can get them to their natural size. It's really rare though.) I have three in a 55 gallon; they're about a year old. I bought them at a little over 2 inches. The largest, most dominant one is around 3 inches now.

They're not outgrowing this tank anytime soon. :)
