    Introduction Of New Guppys

60l is about 12-15 Gallons (depending on amount of substrate), that makes 18 Guppies=24 inches + 7 neons makes 31 inches of fish. All of your fish are very narrow so I guess you may just get away with that, others may say that you are overstocked. The "general" rule is an inch of fish per...

    Introduction Of New Guppys

If I understand correctly that you now have 6 males and 4 females, you need to either buy 8 more females or take the females that you do have back. Then the bullied one will hopefully be ok! Fish can be really nasty so don't put him back too early as with a damaged tail he will already be...

    Guppys Eaten !

For more than 1 gourami the females must outnumber the males, two males with no females will be fighting over territory. Also kuhli loaches should be kept in groups, some recommend 10! Their bioload is small so will not effect your stocking too significantly.

    Help

Yes it can, but not too high, the only way it is bought down is by regular water changes, normally 20-25% a week. Having lots of plants will absorb some of the nitrate too! PS forgot to say, you do need to dechorinate your new water when doing a change or you risk killing the bacteria in the...

Likewise, the circulation in the tank will often bring dead fish to the filter if they do not float, are your water stats ok?

    Help

Good advice is so important, I found out about cycling the hard way and lost lots of neons that should never have been sold for a cycling tank. I prefer cardinals now anyway!

New Filter Has Arrived But Have A Few Problems

I agree, it does sound not full. Have you tried pushing down the primer plunger? That may get rid of the air. I have the 1400lph version that is very quiet unless some air gets sucked in.

    Cardinals Losing Colour

I've just got home after a very long day out, and no lights were on. After I switched on the lights, and a little while later turned on the tank lighting to feed the fish, my cardinals had virtually no colour at all - some blue and no red. Is it normal for them to "turn their colours off" at...

Going To Maidenhead Aquatics What To Get ?

If you've got something for them to "wiggle" under, then 5+ glass catfish, lovely peaceful and interesting fish! Or maybe a male dwarf gourami?

    De Chlorinator

Thank you (both posts), Cazgar have you monitored the ammonia levels etc whilst doing this to start off with?

    De Chlorinator

I use stresscoat as a dechlorinator, and whilst it also does other stuff and I have no qualms at all with the product, is there a cheaper alternative in the UK that JUST dechlorinates the water? I've read on here that some members are using chlorinated water for up to 30% water changes with no...

    Ammonia Poisioning?

I guess that means an ammonia spike is less likely, but def worth checking before you spend money looking into other fixes!
  21. mhancock

    Ammonia Poisioning?

Have you a test kit to determine the level of ammonia? If not then your LFS can probably test your water for you. If it's a new tank then this is very likely to be a problem, if it's fully cycled then it's still a possibility.

    Poorly Dwarf Gourami

I hope you've not got dwarf gourami disease in the tank, but would hold off buying any more until you are sure that it is not this causing the problem. If it is, there's not much you can do about it unfortunately, I lost a few gourami due to this - really upsetting.

    Should I Euthanize?

+1 It's not ideal, but when I have wanted to separate a fish from others to stop a disease spreading I've put it in a 4l ice cream tub in the airing cupboard (for warmth) and refreshed the water with tank water every day. Not a long term solution, but if you need to be careful with money you...

    Leaking

I've noticed a small amount of water on the MDF that supports one of my tanks. At first I thought the tank had a slow leak, but it has been there for 5 months with no problem and not been moved. The Betta, however, has been bombing around and the water is very high - about 5mm from the rim. I...

    This Site

I only got into fish a few months ago, and since discovering this site have been on it pretty much every day - I love it! I'm wondering though how is this paid for? I've not noticed any adverts and not been asked to pay, are the costs covered by some generous "fishy friends"?

    Panda Corys

A week ago I got some panda corys, very small (just over 1cm). Although I got 5, I've only seen 2 (max 3) at the same time. Are they really shy and hiding, or is it likely that some did not cope with the stress of a new home? I've not managed to find any bodies!

    Underfed Fish?

I've been trying not to feed my fish to much, so aiming at once per day an amount that is totally consumed in between 2-5 minutes. Only problem is, they are doing a good job of munching away at my plants! Does this mean I should be a bit more generous with the food? Thanks, Mark

    Euthanasia

At the weekend I sadly had to put an end to the suffering of one of my lovely angels. Following some research online, it seemed that the most humane way was to drop her into freezing cold water which I reluctantly did. At least this meant little time out of water, and it was very quick. Is...
