De Chlorinator

I use stresscoat as a dechlorinator, and whilst it also does other stuff and I have no qualms at all with the product, is there a cheaper alternative in the UK that JUST dechlorinates the water?

I've read on here that some members are using chlorinated water for up to 30% water changes with no ill effect, has anyone done a proper study on this and measured water parameters over a period of time?

I don't dechlorinate for small water changes up to 20% & my water stats remain stable
I use Seachem prime for large water changes, it's very economical

Yes, I keep a close eye on my water stats, I think I have OCD when it comes to testing & water changes

Cazgar I'm very surprised you can do a 20% without dechlor. Not that I don't believe you... it's just there's always so much stress on using dechlor!!

I might try this sometime to save on prime (6 tanks makes it go by fast)... but then again I might be too scared to attempt it.

I was scared at first too, but having seen people here say they do 20% & more without dechlor, I tried it.
I tested my water before & after with no change to the stats

Do you have a test for chlorine?

Many of us use Seachem Prime.

Our tapwater has chlorine and chloramine in it. Since Prime is so economical I don't see the point of stressing my fish if I don't have to.

I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't read many threads on here from people who have done it with no ill effects.

Seachem Pond Prime is even cheaper than standard Prime, you just have to remember to dose to aquarium levels (5ml per 200 litres, can be overdosed upto 5x to temporarily "soak up" ammonia/nitrite/nitrate for upto 24 hours) which have much less surface area, eg. 2 litre bottle for <£40.

At present I just use Wilkinsons store dechlor as I didn't know better however think I may swap to prime or API stress coat in future!!
