We currently have a 60L fish tank with male and female guppies, as well as neon tetras.

4 Females
4 Males
7 Neon Tetras

We are planning to get more females on Thursday to balance out the male/female ratio. After my fiancée visited a local pet store, she rescued two male guppies from them as they were in a tank with a fighter fish... We introduced them to our tank two days ago however one of the males in particular seems to be chased a lot by one or two of the other guppies and has since had a bit of his tail bitten off.

In the pictures you can see the tank itself. We have 3 small fry in the small separator and in the net the two females that were beginning to get a little exhausted. I have put the damaged guppy into the net with the females for a rest and they seem to be fine.

What advice can you give us? Do I put the damaged guppy back into the main tank and just let them sort it out? How long do I keep the females in the net for before re-introducing them into the main tank (The fry are about 3 days old now)?

Many thanks in advance.

*Will edit with pictures once they upload)*

If I understand correctly that you now have 6 males and 4 females, you need to either buy 8 more females or take the females that you do have back.

Then the bullied one will hopefully be ok! Fish can be really nasty so don't put him back too early as with a damaged tail he will already be slower than the others. Maybe wait until he has most of his tail back?

Thanks, we are planning on buying some more this Thursday. With an extra 8 females this will not overcrowd the tank too badly will it? (60 litres)

60l is about 12-15 Gallons (depending on amount of substrate), that makes 18 Guppies=24 inches + 7 neons makes 31 inches of fish.

All of your fish are very narrow so I guess you may just get away with that, others may say that you are overstocked. The "general" rule is an inch of fish per gallon, however this is only a rough guide and as I said you have small fish. If the filter is circulating several times the volume of the tank per hour my guess is that you should be OK.
