    Baby Kribensis!

My kribs have started a family!!! The parents are busy guarding the fry from anything that dares come to near, there seem to be about 12-15 of the little things. They are not in a breeding trap yet, I could get them into it with careful use of the siphon but am not too keen to do this...

Lost An Angel And 2 Cories In 2 Weeks?

The tank is still cycling, and I know that panda corys are sensitive things. You may be right about adding in too much stock too quickly. You need to do big water changes every day until nitrite is zero, seachem prime can neutralise nitrite as a temporary measure, and you may wish to consider...

    Pregnant Guppy

I'm pretty sure she's pregnant! How can you tell when she is about to give birth? Whilst part of me would be happy to let the fry roam around and let the little bit of nature that is in my tank select the fastest and most cunning to survive, it would be nice to know what to look for so I...

    Help

So pleased it is getting there! You'll know when it the cycling is complete as the ammonia and nitrite levels will both be steady at zero

    Starting Over

I hope you enjoy your new tank! One safe way is to have two heaters, so if one stops working the other will carry on. This will not prevent overheating, though.......

    Do they need live plants?

    Juwel Rekord 800 Queries

I certainly would only change one part of filter media at a time, never all at once! Re the algae, keeping the tank in the dark with no food for a couple of days should help. It may be that with summer coming (!) your tank is getting lots of natural light as well as the 8 hours of bulb light.

    Assassin Snails

Just before I order some assassin snails, are there any compatibility issues with swordtails, corys, cardinals or betta, and do I need to take into account their bioload regarding stocking or is it small enough to be negligible? I have a 55 litre tank and was thinking of getting 5 of them...

    Help With Platy!

When I had platties the males were smaller so that may be normal, to get more advice it will probably be worth posting the stats on the tank - see one of the pinned threads at the top! Here it is: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/2330-please-read-before-posting-to-emergency-section/

    Stocking Ideas?

For more colour: male guppies, male dwarf gourami, cardinal tetras, rams, kribensis, opaline gourami, swordtails. All compatible as long as you have the correct ratio of males:females where applicable!

Filters Being Clogged In A Few Days

Complete guess, but if some sort of algae then keep the tank in complete dark for a few days and don't feed? I'd suggest waiting until someone else comments as that is, as I say, a guess!

    Ammonia Problem After Treating Tank

Maybe (just guessing) the bacteria that breaks down ammonia was more sensitive and effected more, and the bacteria that breaks down nitrite more resilient?
  28. mhancock

    Too Many Problems

Sorry no idea, other than suggesting that you medicate sick fish in a hospital tank rather than effect all of them with the meds. The smaller volume tank will also mean that you need less.

    Molly Has Broken Fin.

I know that Mollies like brackish water so some aquarium salt may help, not sure if it will help the neon but if you follow the directions on the pack you should be OK. As one of the neons is also struggling there may be a problem with the water, is the tank fully cycled and is the ammonia...

Background Or Not (See Text And Pic Below)?

No idea, I picked it up in Manchester! Could find website of shop if you wanted, it's kind of halfway between course sand and gravel. I really like it, except some of my old substrate managed to survive the swap (there was so much sand kicked up I couldn't see what I was doing!) so I am...

Background Or Not (See Text And Pic Below)?

Thanks for the ideas, thought I'd try the bin liners idea before committing to much money or anything permanent, here's several sellotaped to the top back of the tank and hanging down, I did not unfold them to keep the thickness. I quite like it, shame the fish did not sit still for the pic...

Background Or Not (See Text And Pic Below)?

I've been trying to get my tank to look as great as it can, but have avoided using a background as I wanted a more "organic" feel with plants growing up the back instead: I'm not convinced that it is working though, and wondering if a backdrop would be better? I like colourful fish, and am...

    A Cunning Plan
