After finishing a fishless cycle my friend is after some pygmy cories after me cooing over them lol. But, he has gravel on the bottom. Does he need sand for corys? Will they suffer if they're on gravel?

you only need a little amount to seed... so a couple of ceramic rings (make sure they dont ever dry out) and literally a slither of his filter sponge (I took a 1cm strip from a large external filter, it didn't impact it at all). The little space you take from your friends filter can be filled in...

if you can get hold of some mature filter media (maybe one of your friends would donate?) then you can have your tank cycled WAY quicker. My 48litre was cycled in 12 days thanks to a huge chunk of donated media.

hmmm cant tell what's wrong from that... possibly an ammonia spike would cause a little stress, but so long as you got the dead one out quick and did a partial water change to get the ammonia levels down, it shouldn't have that much of an effect I wouldn't think?

apparently arrived yesterday but people failed to tell me this. Put it in my tank today and my shrimp flocked to it :D unfortunately I had to pluck out a snail (cone shaped spiral shell, methinks pond snail?) so will be keeping my eye out for any I may have missed beautiful moss yet again though :D
