Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

Don't worry about it im happy to help :D. Yeah they will be fine as long as hes not small to the point of where the larger fish could eat him, if he is that small then there could be a few issues. Have you thought about how many you want to add??
  2. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

I think it looks ok as it is :) The fish will prefer to sift and dig threw the sand more than the gravel but if your like it that way then thats good. You have made a good amount of caves for them to hide in and take territories/breeding spots. Do you like it?? If not maybe try rocks either end...

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

Dont worry about it,The sand should be fine, in the worse case scenario you could do a 25% water change but i dont think you will have to do that as the filter will do the job and clean it for you :good:. At least this happened with no fish in the tank :P
  9. Malawi MaD

    Oh The Shame

Hows the tank going Lurch (seems the last thing people are worried about on this thread :P )
  10. Malawi MaD

My First Tank 3D Wall / War Theme

Nice tank, would luck much better with more plant's
  11. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

If its that fish, I think its a Pink jewel cichlid. Ideally they shouldn't be kept with Malawi's ad they originate from the West African rivers. Although a lot of people do keep them with mbuna.

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

No worries just try and choose the best quality for your money. Some of them are pretty nice fish so your tank will look nice :good:

    I.d This Tropheus?

    No worries :good:
  14. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

For a Mixed tank that is actually not that bad ( i have seen a lot lot worse ) Right try and figure some of these out see if you like these for a nicely stocked tank. The fish with green rings round them could be Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos 'maingano' or melanochromis johanni as both of these...

    I.d This Tropheus?

  17. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

Yep sound perfect to me, just as long as the species aren't to aggressive or the larger species of lake malawi but if you get pics then that will be good to see what they are. :good:
  18. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

If you want to add more all at once then you could do it, just wouldn't fully stock straight away, You could add more than 6 if you wanted to maybe add groups of 12 each time. So If you added the fish say on the 25th/26th monitor for a week then add another group that will be fine, Just remember...
  19. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

Hopefully it shouldn't take to long to cycle then :) I wouldn't add all at once but i would categories it into say 3 to 4 groups, so add 1 group of 6+ fish then another and then another etc.. Until your tank is fully stocked :) Yes your right all your fish would start of fresh in the tank with...

How To Convince Mom To Let You Have Something

Just do jobs for her round the house maybe, try a little sweet talking and give her the puppy dog eyes lol, then ask the question. If your mom keeps fish to, then offer her to help you out and make her feel involved. Other than that i dont know :hyper:

Do You Rescape With Fish In Or Out?

Give it time mate, you haven't had them long so they will take a few month's to get them settled and use to their new home. My Temp's are betweein 26'c to 28'c and when i do water changes the temp drops to 23 to 25'c and they absolutely love it, sends them in a breeding frenzy lol
  25. Malawi MaD

Do Peacocks Like Current In The Tank?

Some parts of the lake is really vigorous, with waves smashing against the rocks and the fish love it but im guessing with the haps/peacock's been in the more open parts of the lake they wont have to much water flow. They don't appear lethargic do they?? The current shouldn't really affect them...

Do You Rescape With Fish In Or Out?

Malawi's love the slightly cooler temp mate, always get's mine breeding everytime without fail, So honestly don't worry about that. I remove most of my fish if i do a rescape, malawi's are pretty fast and know to get out of the way.
  31. Malawi MaD

    Little Girl

She's licking them lips waiting for that Jewel lol. Pretty cat

    New Chiclid Tank Ideas

For a 30G id recommend a nice Tang set-up (Tanganyikan cichlid's) maybe a few shellies (Lamprologus species) with a good amount of shell's scattered along the bottom of your tank. Then maybe some julie's (Julidochromis species) then a more open water species to fill out the top half in your...

    Plants For Cichlids

Java fern is probably the only thing that's quite durable and could work well with malawi's (guessing you have malawi's?) I had a huge vallis that grew amazing in my old planted tank withing a week 30 mbuna stripped it to nothing when i added it to their tank.
  34. Malawi MaD

    Quiet Jewel Cichlid

Ahh hopefully you will still win them then :hyper:.. I know what you mean, she will probably attack the cat lol (she sounds that aggressive) that's the frustrating thing with malawi's they can suddenly have a rant with one another and one always ends up worse of. Melafix should do its job pretty...
  35. Malawi MaD

    Quiet Jewel Cichlid

That is crazy, never knew they had so much aggression. She should be tamed a little with the mbuna as tank mates hopefully. :good:.. When do your pseudo saulosi arrive?
  36. Malawi MaD

    Quiet Jewel Cichlid

So the jewel did this to your Vieja? Wow i didn't know they were so aggressive.
  37. Malawi MaD

  39. Malawi MaD

Starting My New African Cichlid Tank

No worries :). Some places online i think are ok just have to find out which ones are good and which onces are not so good.
  40. Malawi MaD

Hopefully Going To Be My New Fish..

Depend's, they will always chase something new in the tank but if your added a few at a time that's a good thing, spread's out the aggression. If their juvi's they might not be harassed to much :) Don't forget pics :hyper:
