The filter works by drawing water up out of the tank by means of the impeller, therefore water passes over or near to the impeller which is in a sealed electric motor. Water can not enter the motor. remove the impeller, wash it and its housing. Is the tank now full of water?

You would have to line the ply with fiber glass grp to make water tight.

is the tank full now??? IF not fill it up and try the filter again.. you may find that if its not full the filter can not lift the water as it should.

Make sure the electric is OFF. clean it with a cotton bud or similar. safe if power is off. when you switch it back on you might have to give it a nudge..

remove it, clean it, and clean it's housing. Replace it in its housing and switch it back on.Is it possible to fill the filter tray manually to ease the suction process?

Sounds like the impeller is stuck.

if you can get to the impeller check that its not stuck. Mine stuck on the fluval edge the other day, I poked it with a little screw driver and away it went again. BE CAREFUL THO.

If its an external filter you may have lost suction. Switch it off and re-prime it then switch back on.

I dry dose and that calculator above is about what I'm dosing, a bit more trace than on there tho. I also add a little iron on trace days for the swords, greedy little buggers. Three water changes a week is a bit much. one 40 - 50% should be fine IMO. just to get rid of excess nutrients. I...

Well I finally got round to sorting the timer out, been running a while now and I am pretty impressed with it. 5 sockets are programmable and each one has six settings so can be programmed to come on and off several times if required. Gets rid of all those plug in timers.... :good:

My blues come on at lights out and stay on for another hour and a half. Looks great and doesn't stress out the fish at all. I bought some self adhesive strip ones from my local electrical wholesaler.

My Hoplo's spit water too. I have just been sat on the floor messing with the timers and 4 of the Hoplo's were spitting water over the top of the tank at me, there's no lid on there. They do this quite regularly until I feed them. I have been sat watching t.v. before and been hit on the side of...

You can make your own with some insulation board and imagination.

Few years ago I used to sell guppies, cories and angels to my lfs. I didn't get paid in cash but in goods. food, fish etc. You dont make a fortune but it helps fund the hobby.

Co2 levels can be checked using a drop checker. To much co2 does not cause bba but poor circulation does. Also to much lighting does. DIY co2 system is a bit unpredictable and again can cause bba. Any co2 injector needs to be passed through a defuser to disperse the co2 into the water coarse...

Provide them with more hiding places and perhaps plants to hide among. The safer they feel the more they will relax and the more you will see of them IMO.

MA at west bridgeford Nottingham have loads £14 each though. They always command a high price though. You could probably do a deal if you had a few. Need a mortgage though... lol. I have had mine for 20+ years great little fish.
