What filtration do you have? I'm sure it's a sponge filter and you know what you're doing but wanted to ask is all. I doubt very much all of them would get sucked up in the same night but trying to think of other possibilities.

It would help if you could list the specific Africans but in general I wouldn't. They have different dietary needs (of which the Oscars diet can kill some African cichlids) and in most cases the African cichlids will be more aggressive and when larger the Oscar may consider them food.

For my tankbusters I use a net to guide them into a pail. Never had any problems and they don't seem to mind it much once inside of it.

What size tank? You should have many more together than just 2. They really are vicious fish. It just may take more than 2 days for them to get settled in.

Stressed and overcrowded. Most takns are more or les bare so they have no territory boundaries and nothing to fight for.

I think a 20g is a tad small for them. Basing this on the fact that they are nippy and need to be kept in groups of 6-8 or more so they will nip at each other more than the others. I'm not aware of any diffferences betwen the sexes and the green ones are the same as the orange and black ones...

I agree with Lisa. For tankbusters like my red mota's, haitiensis, umbriferums, piranhas etc. I always have a minimum filtration of 10x. I shoot for 15x generally. I think that was the same line of thinking Tolak was going for, if you could answer his question it may help a lot. :)

It's ok for a treat but not an everyday food for some fish. If you do buy it, ask the butcher to cut the fat off or at least do it yourself.

I haven't had much luck with canisters. I gave up on them a while ago but some swear by them so there has to be something about them. They just aren't for me, I guess.

A lot goes into how fast fish grow. Genetics plays a huge part, water changes and diet also play a large part. As far as cichlids go, they are extremely slow growers, though. It can take a couple years for males to grow from 2" to 7-8" and females may even only be 4" or 5" in that time span...

Male fronts can get to 16" and being carnivores their main diet is fish. So having it with small fish might not be a good idea. They aren't aggresive at all to other fish but can be to conspecifics when breeding. I've never seen or heard of any aggressive Fronts before, at least.

Was the filter media still wet?

Do redtail black sharks breed in aquariums? I'm not sure of that but I've read somewhere that they are all wild caught. There are probably a few more fish we take for granted that are wild caught. So be careful before you say you're 100% against it just in case that's true. I know there are...
