Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a new fish and wondered if anyone can offer advice.

I really like the Frontosa Cichlid fish but need to know if it will be suitable with my other fish lfs said it wouldn't so i'm asking you guys.

In the tank I have .............

3 rosy bars who play and fight/dance??? like mad
3 white mollies 1 male, 2 female
1 orange mollie female, I black male mollie
1 small pleco
2 small danios
6 black widowTetra's who spend their time chasing each other around
2 bala sharks (about 6cm)

If this fish is a no go can someone please advise on another fish which is bit colourfull and grow no bigger than 10cm

Frontosa actually grow to about a foot, but they need a different ph then the rest of your fish, I don't think it would be a very good idea to get one. What size of tank do you have?

Hi, boyfriend has just measured it properly for me and it's 169.59 litres

I'm guessing at some stage if the bala sharks get to their expected size then I will have to find a new home?

Common pleco, at the mo' it's about 8 cm's got it when it was about 5 so it's grown a wee bit, lol

A frontosa is definately not a good idea. When grown, he would make a nice tasty treat out of all your other fish, not to mention how aggressive they are. If your interested in frontosas you should set up a tank just for them and other Malawi Cichlids.

Male fronts can get to 16" and being carnivores their main diet is fish. So having it with small fish might not be a good idea.

They aren't aggresive at all to other fish but can be to conspecifics when breeding. I've never seen or heard of any aggressive Fronts before, at least.

Ok, thanks for advice. How long roughly is it though to they make the max size?

Any ideas on another fish that will grow a bit be nice and colourfull that will go with my other fish?

A lot goes into how fast fish grow. Genetics plays a huge part, water changes and diet also play a large part. As far as cichlids go, they are extremely slow growers, though. It can take a couple years for males to grow from 2" to 7-8" and females may even only be 4" or 5" in that time span.

Someone else will hopefully answer your other question as I know nothing about most fish, especially community fish. I just have experience with tankbuster cichlids and piranhas. I'm sorry.

Personally I would take back your pleco and Bala's, and add to your danios, and then get a Gourami of some kind.
