Green Terror

I have been looking over profiles between a True Green Terror (Aequidens rivulatus) and a False since i saw a debate on a selling thread on another forum. I cam across this http/www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/results.php .

Now the only thing is that, the only discrnable difference I see between the Silver vs. Gold Saum is that the gold has an orange band along the finnage, while as the silver has a white band.

Is this accurate? Are there more ways to tell a fake? I'm guessing based off of the thread in the selling section that the only way to get a "true" one is through Jeff Rapps or a similar seller. I don't necessarily want one right now, but I thrive in research and want to learn all I can. This way i can know for any possible future i may have involving them and be able to help other people. I believe that's the only way to tell for sure but not 100% positive.

Getting a true GT is very hard and probably impossible at an lfs. Jeff Rapps would be a good place to look. At one time, he was the only one in the US that had true A. rivulatus.

Last I knew the false GT was called A. CF rivulatus. Things change quickly in naming cichlids so that may not be the case anymore.

is there any real difference between the "true" and "false" green terror beyond the higher prestige of the "true" fish? (also, i've always wondered why its considered the false GT if it comprises 99% of the fish available in the trade stupid common names )

From what I've been told by others is thta the green terror we know today is called the green terror. But before htey came into the market, there was a bigger, less hardy and more aggressive version that has been pretty much out fo the trade for over a decade. I was just wondering if there was a surefire way to distinguish between the "original green terror" and the modern "flase" ones. Did that make any sense?

The "true" Green terror is smaller only growing to 8" average and the CF grows to 12". The "true" GT is much more aggressive than the "false" GT.
