    MORE ADVICE

They are both South American so it should be ok, but my money would be on the Severum if it came to a fight. Put some Sword plants in there, it's a native plant for them and will give the angels a place to escape if need be. Check out South American Biotope setups for more info on keeping...

    Salt...

I have had great results with salt in freshwater aquariums for treating ich. Put in the recommended dose on the back of the carton and raise the heat to 88 degrees for a week. The ich will be gone and then do a water change of 50% to bring the salt levels back down. Then drop the temp SLOWLY, to...

    bogwood or slate

put the bogwood in a trash can and fill it with water. Replace the water every other day untill you have clear water at the end of the 48 hour soak. You can also use Zebra Rock which is nicer than slate.

    Anyway of lowering nitrite?

Rainwater has Sulfuric acid. You'd be better off filtering all the well water coming into the house with a R/O system. Kill two birds with one stone, better water for you and the fish.

    Redoing tank...

Pristella Tetras school daily for hours. Zebra Dianos school tightly when in groups of 6 or more. More importantly, pick your pleco CAREFULLY! Look for a smaller full growth species like a Clown Pleco. Spend the money on a fancy pleco, they are so cool. Also, what type of corys are you...

One of thirteen refuses to go to school.

I have13 Pristella tetras that often do laps across the tank in a loose and flowing shoal. Sometimes it's a row, sometimes a clump, with laggers darting up to the front. Either way, this is no doubt a schooling fish. Fun to watch too. There is this one, a smallish one that is healthy and...

    Car wax on my tank.

Ever notice how water stains the front of the tank and requires a cleaning agent to get them off, since just a rag and water will not clean it? Use some quality car wax on the front glass. I did it and the tank looks better since the wax filled in small scratches and gave a smooth surface...

    PROOF:Crayfish are bad tankmates!!!!

Oh I knew those fish would get eaten, that why they are called "Feeders". (Not looking for a philosophical debate on the topic of live feeder fish) The lobster is in her own tank, and those fish were in there on the recommendation of a few people at a crayfish forum. Unlike fish that show...

HOW RELIABLE ARE DIY WATER TESTING KITS

Those dip it and read it after 30 seconds strips are often inaccurate. Best tests to get are the ones with the bottles of stuff you add to a water sample. They are cheaper to use than those sticks too, well in the long run anyway.

    Finally got crystal clear water!!!!!

Seems that I had an algae bloom in my tank that I finally diagnosed. If you've tried everything else and still have hazy water, try some Algae-fix. Stuff works amazing. Picture shot before, straight on through 18 inch deep tank. 2 days later, after a 20% water change today it is rediculously...

    Parents actually being supportive

My wife is cool with it. I have kept fish since I was a kid so she knew it was part of the package. When we started dating I had a 20 gallon, then I bought a 35 hex when we moved in together. We got married and rented a bigger place, that's when the fun started. I always told her once I had...

How do you pick your fishs' names?

Just curious, and thought it would make a good thread. My angels are George and Martha Washington, my clown plec is "Mr. Wiggles"(My wife's decision) The cories are Pierre, Jean Claude and Fifi, the common plec is Frenchy,(All French names cause they're bottomfeeders). The balas don't have...

    Canister or HOB?

I will say that a HOB Aquaclear 500 will do the trick. It's rated up to 110 gallon tank size. I have used one for years and it's dead simple to use and maintain. Angelfish hate current, so keep the tank topped off with an aquaclear and there is very little water movement.

    Me Want

Large tanks and apartments are ok. Just put the tank against a load bearing wall and put a platform under it to distribute the weight. A simple platform of 2X12 planks will spread the weight over the undertank area of the floor. Here is the maths: 150 gallons plus tank is about 1400 pounds...

    Will my angel be alright?

I had an ich outbreak in my tank about a month ago. As you can see I have angels. They took 90 degrees for a week with no problem and didn't mind some salt. Lost 2 balas to the ich before I noticed it. Balas seem particularly prone to early ich mortality for some reason. Now 2 of my...

    Cleaning a percentage of gravel

One way to get the muck out of the rocks is to pour the new water into the tank over them to "Wash out" the crevices. A powerhead will blast out the junk like a powerwasher and if done just before a water change will help remove the junk.

    Fish not liking food?

You could try some Melafix to get rid of ich, it also helps fish who are wounded by disease. If you are going to try to cure ich with temperature alone use 86 F/30 C as a minimum temperature, any less just speeds up the ich lifecycle.
