Title says it all. How often do you change the 'bio bag' in your tetra whisper filter?
They say every month, but I read somewhere something about just swilling it around in tank water and putting it back into the filter?

I only literally 'change' it about once every 6 months... but each time I do a water change (once a week) I take it out and swoosh it around in the 'old tank water' to get the big stuff off. Sometimes I need to rub a little to help clean it up.

The filter media (the cottonie stuff) holds 'good bacteria' wihch you don't want to lose. That's why ya only rinse it. But after a while the carbon get's clogged up and stops working, that's why every 6 months or so, ya just gotta change it.

Hehe it was your post I read in another person's thread that prompted me to make a thread specifically about the whisper filters lol

Mine's a month old now so I was getting ready to change it, glad I asked first. Thanks.

Carbon loses it's punch in a few weeks time so monthy changes on that would be recommended.

FWIW:Sponges NEVER get replaced, just rinsed.

I'm not saying this isn't true, but I've been told 6 months (pretty big difference). Whichever you choose to go with, I'd suggest you do not change the media that often. You can submerge the cartridge in tank water and remove the old carbon and replace it with fresh without too much hassle.

Then I'll wait for 3 months and see how it goes.

I'm totally confused about the nitrites and nitrates in my tank. I did a 30% water change today and here's my results:

Ph: 7.2
Ammonia: <0.01
Nitrite: between 0.25 to 0.5
Nitrate: between 5 to 10

My tank has been running, with fish in it for 4 weeks now. Should I just be doing water changes once a week now?

looks liek your tank is in teh final stages of its nitrogen cycle, keep doing small water changes until ammonia and nitrites are 0 :)

Sounds good. So 25% daily until they're zero and then a weekly water change?

When I cycled (with fish) i found 10-15% daily water changes worked well for me. I agree that you're nearing the end!!

Hang in there!! It's almost done :p
