will they work? i read some where that lobsters shouldn't be kept with fish? or that could have bee crabs, anyways it was to do with them being nipped and eaten so it could be either?

any other specail recuirments?

also how many inches do they get to for purpose of stocking?

my local pet store has them in almost all of there tanks and they have alot of tanks.. i think you can put them in a community

i'd not try it with any community containing bottom dwellers... i've mentioned it elsewhere, but i once saw (at an LFS) a freshwater lobster latch onto the tail of a 3 inch pleco. the owner had to beat the lobster off with a net! apparently this wasn't the first fish it had attacked; the owner was so fed up with it that she threw it in with the parrot fish. the parrot fish proceeded to swarm the lobster and tore it into bite-sized chunks.

that's my story and i'm sticking to it.

You can't keep them with any small fish, regardless of where they swim, as they'll eat tetras, barbs, small cichlids, cories etc without hesitation. They work with larger cichlids but you'd need a big tank. A small species tank works well for them though. If we are talking about crayfish (which are often called blue lobsters and are obviously nasty blue lobster-like things), you can keep one in a 10 gallon and I'm pretty sure a quick search on google should point you towards many sites with info on their care. Or you could ask in the inverts section. :)

as you live in the UK the only Blue Lobster you can get is the Cherax Quad which grows to around 1ft, this will require a 4ft tank. and to be kept on it's own.

this species also needs slightly cooler water than tropical fish.

If it were me...I wouldn't keep them with any fish. While the fish are swimming around during the day (this doesn't include bottom dwellers) it isn't so bad....but we all know they like to settle down during the night...a lot of them resting on the bottom or in a cave or under something.

I don't know about you but I wouldn't feel safe sleeping at night with something creeping around my house that wanted to eat me....so I don't think the fish are safe either. Just my opinion....as I have no experience with them. -_-
