    The Real Cost Of Fishkeeping......

Well, let's see what I'm using for my 60g that I'm building now: DIY stand, looks reasonably good, I'm happy with it. There'll be pics of it in a journal I'll start in a week or so. -$140 in materials, and a lot of time Used Acrylic tank, in good shape, slightly scratched $50+ $15 on polishing...

Expensive Fish But No Quarantine Tank.

I think I'm just going to use an old 10g as a quarantine, but it won't be able to hold most of my fish when they get larger. A 6" Discus in a 10g is just... not cool...

To Co2 Or To Not Co2?

So, update for anyone still reading this: Local welding supply has a 5lb CO2 container for $51.15 Not too bad... Azoo CO2 Diffuser $25+$8shipping = $34 If I get the used Azoo CO2 regulator it'll be about $60, if not I'll just buy this JBJ one for $80 Total: $145 I'm not sure I can just use...

To Co2 Or To Not Co2?

Thanks for the help disco! How much exit pressure do you normally run? The last thing I haven't figured out is the piping between the end of the regulator and the diffuser. What size piping is normally used? Am I going to need anything else?

To Co2 Or To Not Co2?

Well, a pressurized CO2 system does seem to be easier, and I think I can deal with the initial setup cost. I have read a couple horror stories about how the safety valve will burst if the filling station isn't careful which can be very detrimental, however these incidences are rare... I think I...

To Co2 Or To Not Co2?

I'm in the process of setting up a 60g aquarium, and have spent quite a bit of time today trying to wrap my brain around the concept of CO2 and all of it's intricacies. I want a medium to heavily planted tank, but something that shows off my fish as well, not just my plants. As of now my...

What Type Of Sand Do You Recommend

I'm going to use Eco-Complete in my new tank. It's black, looks good, and is really good for plants, much less comes with a little bit of bacteria which most likely makes it cycle faster

    What Fish Would You Buy

I paid $6ea for 2 Blue Angel Rams last night :) they're beautiful. Sadly my 10g is slightly overstocked atm, but all the fish should be moving into the larger tank in a week or so. Waiting for my filter to come in!

    More Pricy In The Uk?

As far as fish goes, it's probably at least a little due to shipping. It's much more difficult to get Asian fish to the UK, and African fish are about equal to UK & US. Just a thought.

    Will This Be Overstocked

I've had a 3-spot in a 10g with a dwarf gourami before, and they wouldn't bother eachother much. Do most people have a problem with those two fish together?

    Pfk Photo Competition

I think N would be the best pic if it had some sort of fish in focus along with it. That being said, E is then my choice. It's still artistic, showing the plant/bubbles, and a fish in focus with the neons out of focus in the background. It shows artistic/photographic talent, while still showing...

    George's Planted Tank

I hate to give any criticism for a tank as beautiful as this, but I will give what I have, thought it is truly a stunning tank. Since you are looking for a natural look, I think your tank looks almost too carefully planted. Some of the smaller plants look like they're almost in rows. Maybe...

    My Discus Setup!

Beautiful tank! I'm also thinking about doing a community tank with a few discus and a couple rams. Did you even try to grow your plants w/o CO2, or did you need the CO2? As for your questions, the algae problem is most likely normal, and I think CO2 can help with that, but I honestly don't...

    Plants And Cycling

Wait... I misread the first time, my apologies. The tank is already set up for a week now? You can't really do much for the plants except keep them in the tank, unless you already have some water that has been cycled. The ammonia might kill some of the less hardy plants. What's your ammonia...

    Plants And Cycling

I'm no pro, but from what I've read up you want the ammonia levels to drop some before you add in plants. I'm going to start cycling a tank shortly and plan on cycling it for 3-4 days, then adding plants for a week or two, however long it takes for the levels to even out.

    Battery Operated Pump

You should be able to find them at most computer places, or buy one online. I've never bought one so I couldn't tell you too much, but I know they have lots of extra features that you wouldn't need (Auto shut down etc.)

    Battery Operated Pump

An interesting thought... you could use a UPS(Uninteruptable Power Supply) backup battery system. They're normally used for computers, but can be used for whatever. All they do is store power in a battery while your power is on, and when your power goes it it kicks over to the battery, the...

I currently have a 10g Freshwater tank that we're going to move into a 60 gallon, so I thought I'd try my hand at a nano tank. After looking into it I'm not sure what I should do, but here are my options: 1) Use the 10g I have now, buy a powerhead, lights, empty the tank out & cycle it again...

    Removing Sealant From Acrylic

I recently bought a used 60 gallon tank, it's in decent shape, just needs some cleaning up, however the idiot that I bought it from put a plastic background and used sealant to attach it to the back. What is the best way to remove this without scratching up the acrylic tank? Thanks in advance.
