    Co2 Your Opinions

I have the first one stella... It works just fine on top of a fire extinguisher, and has been doing the job well for 8 months no problems. I have it powered up from this pH sensor/controller from the same vendor. However, the second one looks just as good and the addition of the bubble counter...

    Substrate Swap

I was going to attempt this a few months ago, but ended up chickening out and breaking the tank down. However... at the time my LFS guy advised me to place the new substrate into ice cube trays, saturate it with water gently and then freeze it. Then you can pop the cubes into place where you...

    Fire Extinguishers

Sorry Themuleous but I don't know about Chubb, but I'd say any good fire extinguisher servicing company or welding supplier should be able to provide CO2 refills for any reasonably standard extinguisher. I just got hold of a Fire Kwencher 2kg from Safelincs (£40+£4 delivery in vat). They do a...

    Mystery Co2 Regulator

Did anyone buy one of these: New Deluxe Dual gauged CO2 regulator w/ Solenoid valve I just scored one of these 'cos it looked like good value. I am just wondering if the valve is reasonably standard, I would like to try and get it connected to a 2Kg fire extinguisher. If anyone recognises the...

    Best Fertilizer

I use the Seachem liquids and my plants are looking healthy. They have a suggested dosing chart here.

    Tried Rearranging Tank

I'm not sure if it is completely relevant, but in the non-aquatic world a lot of plants respond well to root pruning. So it might be best to try clipping the roots of one bunch and observing how they behave compared to the others.

    Plant Fert Liquid

As a total planted tank newb, this makes me think of some questions: Are products like Nutrafin Plant Gro Iron Enriched or Interpret Flora Boost sufficient for fertilising a heavily planted 35 liter bi-ube tank? Their packaging emphasises the benefits of the micro nutrient end of things and...

    Cold Cathode Moon Light

Quick question for those of a technical nature who know about cold cathodes... What is the wattage output of these cold cathode lamps, e.g. is a white cold cathode run at 12V and 1000mA roughly equivalent to 12W?

    Tank Concept

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. I will steer clear of serpae tetras and I will go for a mix of cardinals and rummy noses. Once the tank is up and runnning with the tetras i will be seeking more detailed advice on the cichlids.

    Tank Concept

I'm fairly new to fishkeeping but thinking of getting a second tank with some new world cichlids as a major feature and I was wondering what you guys thought of the concept... Size, shape, aquascaping, planting, filtration: It would be a 25 UK gallon (30 US gallon or 113L) tank with a...

    New Rocks

You should be testing to see if the rocks have any effect on your pH level.

    Worst Film Ever Watched.

There are several movie producers who owe me minutes/hours of my life back for creating boring, stupid crud. Specifically, the worst offenders that spring to mind would be: Back to the Future II The Ninth Gate The Village A History of Violence The latter film has got to be the worst film ever...

    Adding To A New Biorb

Lawtie, I think your LFS (local fish shop) were encouraging you to do a 'fishless cycle', which is a really good idea if you have the patience! There is an excellent post here on cycling your tank. You should also do a search on here and google for information on cycling your tank with or...
