I have to say that although i don't rely only on my digital thermometers. Both the fish minder and the digital thermometer on my eheim filter/heater are very accurate and results are indistiguishable from the spirit thermometers.

I think ADF are very skittish when first put into a new enviroment. Make sure he has plenty of hiding places that he can seek refuge from the fish and he should be fine. ADF are social creatures so an extra one to keep him company may help him settle and make him happier in the long run.

Are you sure you have the right ammonia. just 100% ammonia and water. As ammonia with perfumes and other bits and bob's often won't cycle.

Like i said i'm adding tiny amount grain or 2 of sugar size in a 500l. you just want it for tiny amount of trace elements not to start stacking up with ammonia you are already adding.

If your tap water varies drastically in ph between fresh from the tap and left for 24hours I would personally leave the water you are going to use for water change in a container over night to gas off and then use it if this is a viable option.

I was about to say the same thing. The API ammonia tests seem very sensitive(good thing imo) but it does mean if you don't clean the test tubes well enough you can get a false positive. Test your tap water if you get a positive from that and haven't in the past you need to clean your test tubes...

When i did a giant water change in my fishless cycle i would say it set the cycle back 4days to a week. I wouldn't do a water change unless it's really neccesary but others have had better experiences with doing water changes mid cycle.

You should be ok just need to bear in mind that surface area of water in contact with air is just as important as volumn of water when concidering tanks. I personally feel the biorbs are quite a lot of money for what they are, but thats more of a personal preference thing more than anything else.

Depending on what sort of corydoras you are having all of those fish are generally reccomended for mature tank due to being sensitive to water chemistry changes. If you do decide to go the fish-in cycle please be very careful to keep both ammonia and nitrite to 0 and stock very slowly.

The problem is the existing filter is already converting all the ammonia and nitrite to nitrate. Running 2 filters in the same tank like that will take months + to mature the new filter.
