    Colourful Corydoras

There are orange and green lasers which are similar to the gold except orange and green. I really like Corydoras duplicareus/Adolfi but they tend to be expensive and hard to find. Corydoras schultzi have a black form which are also quite stunning imo but again rare and tend to be expensive. I...

    Absolute Disaster.

I know that guppies weren't very suitable for my water in abergavenny as it very soft 2.6kh and they are reccomended for alkaline, Hard water . Although i'm not sure if this would cause there death. Is the heat ok and was it possible they somehow got caught in plastic plants ?

    Adding New External Filter

Not sure that running both side by side for a month would be effective as surely there would be nothing to promote growth of bacteria in external filter as the internal would be taking care of the cycle. Then when you removed the internal you would be basically removing all your bacteria. Moving...

    Pre Matured Filter

Not sure i would have thought oxygen would have been more of an issue than food and feeding it just may lead to oxygen running out faster. I'm not even sure if it's viable, just a thought i had.

    Pre Matured Filter

I was tempted to setup a tank and filter and cycle it so that i could just start mailing mature media to people when they come on the forum and say they have just bought tank/heater/fish and what do they do now. or just people looking for mature media. Not sure how well it would travel in the...

    Fish Tanks For Cheap?

I've got to agree with this. Have bought 2 big fish tanks off ebay and both have been fantastic. I couldn't have afforded either of my tanks if i had bought them new. Bought a juwel 450 + eheim pro2 2026 + 2126 + Eheim wet and dry + Uv steriliser + Co2 unit + Large pond style water pump for £250...

    Completely New Tank

Not true. i would always advise someone buy as big a tank as they can afford but there is plenty you can do with a 55 litre tank. You just need to research appropriate fish. I've seen some truely beautiful nano tanks which are far smaller than this. Plus it was stated he was thinking of having...

Digital Thermometer, Which One And Placement.

Yeah i run 2 heaters in each tank. But 1 of tanks has an eheim filter/heater which is 500w so could probably boil the tank rather quickly. Not that i've ever had problems with it. For me the advantage of the alarm is there is always someone in my house. I live on a farm. and while no one would...

    Finished Cycle Or Not?

Your supposed to keep both ammonia and nitrite below 0.25ppm for a fish in cycle. Even if this requires large 50%+ water changes on a daily basis.

Digital Thermometer, Which One And Placement.

As previously stated i like the fact that there's an alarm that will go off if the tank temperature strays above or below pre-set temperatures. Well worth £5-30 as an extra failsafe to protect my fish. I don't really see the relevance of your 2 £100 calibrated thermometers. Of course they would...

Digital Thermometer, Which One And Placement.

Yeah that was kinda my thinking I bought a Hagen Marina Aqua Minder which is thermometer with an alarm for water temp Hi and low. It also has a function in which you set the maintenance times for water changes and filter maintenance and system maintenance and these tick down. Like i said i...

Digital Thermometer, Which One And Placement.

I have to say that although i don't rely only on my digital thermometers. Both the fish minder and the digital thermometer on my eheim filter/heater are very accurate and results are indistiguishable from the spirit thermometers.

    Uv Steriliser

Am I really what ? Cheers raptor. Seems like it's a bit of a hot bed for debate. I was concidering setting it up on my Q tank. But i think that may be counter productive as it might mask a problem which will then only become apparent whn fish are transferred to main tank. Think i will keep it...

    Uv Steriliser

What are the advantages/disadvantages of UV sterilisers. I have one which came with some other stuff i bought and just wondered if it was worth setting up or not. I have 2 tanks 1. 2 oscars and a cat fish 2. Community tank with Cory/Tetra/Angel fish Which tank should i use it on if at all.

Finally Confident The Tank Is Cycled And Added Fish But...

I think ADF are very skittish when first put into a new enviroment. Make sure he has plenty of hiding places that he can seek refuge from the fish and he should be fine. ADF are social creatures so an extra one to keep him company may help him settle and make him happier in the long run.

    Setting Up A New Tank

Yeah i had to defrost a piece of my bogwood to get it in my tank today. I don't think i've ever cursed an inanimate object so much before in my life. Slightly to big to go in my tank, crushing my plants you name it, it did it.

Could Someone Post Me Some Media?

Are you sure you have the right ammonia. just 100% ammonia and water. As ammonia with perfumes and other bits and bob's often won't cycle.

    Water Change During Cycle

Like i said i'm adding tiny amount grain or 2 of sugar size in a 500l. you just want it for tiny amount of trace elements not to start stacking up with ammonia you are already adding.

    Water Change During Cycle

I'm just giving personal experience. If you cycle stalls due to massive amounts of nitrates or your PH completely bottoming out then you really are left with no option but to do a water change. But if you can avoid them i probably would. During stage 2 with the nitrite spike i dropped my ammonia...

Ph In Water Before Putting In Tank

If your tap water varies drastically in ph between fresh from the tap and left for 24hours I would personally leave the water you are going to use for water change in a container over night to gas off and then use it if this is a viable option.

    False Ammonia Test Results?

I was about to say the same thing. The API ammonia tests seem very sensitive(good thing imo) but it does mean if you don't clean the test tubes well enough you can get a false positive. Test your tap water if you get a positive from that and haven't in the past you need to clean your test tubes...

    Water Change During Cycle

When i did a giant water change in my fishless cycle i would say it set the cycle back 4days to a week. I wouldn't do a water change unless it's really neccesary but others have had better experiences with doing water changes mid cycle.

    Biorb Life 45L

You should be ok just need to bear in mind that surface area of water in contact with air is just as important as volumn of water when concidering tanks. I personally feel the biorbs are quite a lot of money for what they are, but thats more of a personal preference thing more than anything else.

    Lighting

I think this is one of those things you need to narrow down for yourself.Aquarium plants need a minimum of 4 hours light for photosynthesis and i wouldn't run lights for more than 12 hours. So i would start at 8 and if your plants seem like they need more light increase it and if your getting...

    My First Ever Tank

Depending on what sort of corydoras you are having all of those fish are generally reccomended for mature tank due to being sensitive to water chemistry changes. If you do decide to go the fish-in cycle please be very careful to keep both ammonia and nitrite to 0 and stock very slowly.

    Kmur's Cycle Journal

Do plants negatively effect your cycle. The reason i ask is i may have bought a plant or 30 while waiting for my tank to cycle. Just my way of handling the wait.

    Extra Filtration Fishless Cycle

Second filter is there to stay. It's annoying as the holes for the filter tubes are about 8" from the side so the very outsides of the tank are filter dead zones. But there's not much i can do about this without getting the glass drilled somehow. Have put 1 inlet and outlet on each side for the...

    Do Your Fish Greet You?

My recently adopted oscars start circling the top of the tank ready for feeding if i get near it. But they also flare at my brother, which is odd. But i wonder if it's because they share a room but he never feeds them. They seem to strop when i do a water change too but that might just be my...

    Yoyos Vs Rostrata

All i can tell you is less than 3+ yoyo's can cause issues as there a fish with a social structure and need minimum 3 to behave correctly. Most reccomend 5+ This may be causing the aggresion in your fish although this is all second hand stuff that i read off the internet as i was thinking of...

    Golden Gourami White Hole/spot

The hole is still exactly as pictured a small pit with white centre. Think I must have been seeing things as i can't see the other 2 small dots now. Can't see any others like hole in the head. Could be HITH due to malnutrition as the non-oscars in the tank seem to survive off tiny scraps that...

    Kmur's Cycle Journal

This may seem like a stupid thing to say but make sure you clean the test tubes and dropper/syringe well after testing. Digital Thermometer, Which One And Placement.

I have a fish minder which is a thermometer and alarm for water changes/filter cleaning. You can also set it up to alarm if water gets above or below a temp you set.
