Would This Work Out Okay?

Okay here are a few pictures that I took. Bare with me on some of them though because it's hard to get pictures of a 6 foot tank when you only have a couple feet to go back because it's in the garage + the crappy camera. The pictures didn't come out great but there worth looking at. I'll post links to them since when i try to get the picture on the site a window comes up and says you must enter a url

Here's a full tank shot:

Here's another full tank shot:

Here's a picture of where the frame of the tank cracked:

This shows the black gravel and some of the decorations that I won't be using:

And here's the river rock that I will use to decorate the heater guard:

I'm still debating on whether I should go with the black gravel or sand. what do you guys think?

Well my dad and I are going to paint the stand and trim sometime this week, but first we have to set up the heater in the garage because it gets really cold down there. Then we have to let that dry and we also have to clean the gravel. We are having 2 parties this week so that will delay some of the work that has to be done on the tank + stand. We have to decide were we are going to put the tank because we can't put it in the palor or kitchen because of my new puppy so, we might have to put it in my room where my 55 gallon tank is and if that's what we decide on then we will have to sell the 55 gallon tank first. before we can put any of the expensive fish in the tank we have to cycle it of course. I brought the filters down to that new lfs that I found and they let my put my 2 filters on one of their tanks to kind of get a head start on cycling. I will also be empting the water from 3 of my 55 gallons that I'm selling into the big tank to really get a jump start on cycling. So hopefully the tank will be set up soon but, as you can see we have a lot to do first.

If you use any paint or varnish try to get and acrylic type it lasts longer and not as toxic to the fish

Yesterday we cleaned out the tank and gravel really good and picked up some more paint because we didn't have enough. On the first coat of paint we're going to use the white/creamish color paint that we had and for the second coat we picked up textured paint that looks and feels like sand. It's really cool. We also decided that we're going to buy some new handles to put on the tank stand. Were not sure which ones yet though. We probably wont be able to do much work if any on the tank and stand today becuse we're having a party. I'll keep you guys updated on anything that we do.

Water from the other tanks contains nothing beneficial really. Why not just clone your own filters? So take media from your other filters and put them in the new ones? Also what are the dimensions of the new tank? The end dimensions, as well, how wide and tall it is at the end.

I have the filters running on a tank at the lfs currently. The tank is 72x24x24. From the back of the tank to the middle of the tank's front where the tank is widest because of the bow front is 75 inches. All all of the measurments are in inches. Today because of the party we didn't get much work done on the tank but we did get some woek done. We were able to stain the trim with the textured paint and 1 side of the stand just to see if we liked the paint on the stand. Not only do I like it I love the textured paint! It really gives the tank a cool effect. Also I think I will be making a journal of the tank with pictures that will be in the pictures forum. That way people can just go there for the pictures and updates rather then coming to this thread where the first 3 pages really don't mean anything.

i wouldnt start a new thread this is your journal starting back when it was just a idea to becoming reality.just change the topic title to my picture journal or whatever and ask a mod to move it if you want it in the pic section.i wish i hadnt posted in the first 3 pages if they are meaningless :grr: :D
the first pages show you done some reseach before buying your first ray ;)

I guess that is true. I didn't mean like the first 2 pages where meaningless like that, I meant that if somebody had never read this thread befor they would have to read 3 and a half pages before getting to pictures. I did make a new journal in the pictures section to make it easier for people who have never read this thread, but maybe I could ask a mod to combine the threads into 1 in the picture section. Does anybody know how I could do that?

We haven't been able to do much work on the tank except make the 2 heater guards and wash the front of the tank from the spray paint getting on it from painting the trim. The tank is looking really good so far! We have also special ordered the handles for the stand from home depot, however they can take over a month to come in  . So why where waiting for the handles to come in we are going to finish painting the stand and start cycling the tank. I have just 1 more question, while the tank is cycling can I put lilly pads that you buy from gardening stores for ponds in the tank? They are the ones that have a tray with dirt in them that I could put gravel over. I want to put them in the tank while cycling because I'm waiting to get a new light for my 30 gallon and I want the plants to grow a bit before I put them in the 30 gallon. Thanks
